A Knight's Tale (2001)
A young commoner, seeks out the royalty within him, as he attempts to become a knight through jousting competition
The uniqueness a creativity of this film coupled with a rousing story of hope which leads a young commoner (Heath Ledger), into a quest for greatness, makes this Adventure/Romance specially enjoyable.
The director's attempt to dangerously flick from Time period to current, works and gives the film a certain spunk which would not have been there otherwise. Rufus Sewell plays a great villain, the dialog is poignant, sprinkled with spared humor in the right places.
The story of young William Thatcher unfolds to overcome the insurmountable odds from a man born to be nobody to become royalty through a series of daring attempts of a man who's got nothing to lose, and everything to gain. Paul Bettany does an immaculate job as a herald to William, and the rest of the characters simply work well!. The jousting sequences are priceless, together with outstanding cinematography.
This film is a classic, enjoy!
Casanova (2005)
A more charming Casnova seeks to find true love
The screen is lit up by a more charming than usual Casanova, who runs through his share of self brought on perils, with swift action and charm, the characters in this Romantic Comedy, flow very well, while maintaining the expected dynamics of the legendary romancer.
Oliver Platt provides excellent comic relief in his part of Paprizzio with his usual reckless abandon style of acting, but the cast as a whole makes this film utterly enjoyable, the customs and cinematography are quite excellent, and the film editing is sharp.
So, sit comfortably and enjoy a clearly more entertaining version of Giacomo Casanova, you'll want to see it again and again!
American Dreamer (1984)
A daydreaming writing housewive finds a sensational measure of reality to her dreams through an accident while she is on a writing prize winning trip to Paris
A major key to an excellent film is the chemistry between the leading actors, in American Dreamer, JoBeth Williams and Tom Conti, are simply great together, you sit riveted to your seat watching every turn and twist, and you aren't certain whether you'll be laughing, intrigued or shocked in the following scene.
The portrait of the underestimated, under-appreciated housewife, who believes there is more to life than just being patronized is deftly presented.
Huckleberry Fox was great in his role of a grown up 6 year old, while Coral Browne provides the lone dose of sobriety to this simply excellent Caper-Comedy romp!
I have not seen anything quite this good since!
The Shadow Dancer (2005)
This is a Delightful portrait of the unpredictability of the human heart
Certain films gather a collection of excellent marks such a beautiful cinematography, acting chemistry, simple and beautiful portrait of relationships, and a certain knack to make the film utterly enjoyable, such is the case with "Shadows in The Sun".
The true mark of an excellent film is how you feel when you finish viewing it, and how do you fell about seeing it again!, not what the critics think or write about it, so in effect each films has its true value to each individual in itself, a larger acceptance leads to greater reputation, nevertheless to me it's the whole perception to your personal experience. Incidentally, I thought the director did a great job of selecting the sequences, editing was excellent as well, the actors were well within their range, it was so smooth!.
To me this film is a "10", don't miss it!
