Vampire Academy (2022)
Deviation from Books
If you are a die- hard fan of the books and the world created therein, avoid this show. It deviates in many ways. The casting is very off from the description of book characters, but the basic character traits are there and the actors capture the essence of the book character. The most annoying change is that Dimitri is not Russian. I actually can't quite figure out why there are such variations on accents, actually. And, I'm confused a bit by the social structure as there is a bit of a deviation from the books. The positive is that key elements of the book remain at the heart of the story. I do wonder if someone who has never read the books would be super confused by the "rules" of the world and the relationships. As the show goes on, I'm hoping things are explained for the sake of those entirely new to the Vampire Academy world. I loved the books and sequel series, Bloodlines, but am still ok with some of the big differences from the book. Excepting that Dimitri is not Russian. That's just annoying.

Great Show!
I don't care how "realistic" this show is. The truth is, I know nothing of working in foreign countries and even less about being a doctor. I think most viewers are in this boat with me. We wouldn't know what's real and what's off-base anyway, and that's not really why we watch it (if I wanted a true to life documentary, I'd watch one). What makes this show great is that it has a compelling story line, true heart, great-looking actors (which never hurts) and plenty of drama. It is not meant to be a documentary of practicing medicine in a jungle...it is a medical drama! The only reason I gave it a nine out of ten is that I do not love the story line with Brenner falling in love with Mateo and helping him harvest the Coca plant, despite her principles against the growing of cocaine. Otherwise, it's a very fun and compelling show to watch. Enjoyable and entirely engaging! Another hit for Shonda Rimes!
