Pacific Rim (2013)
One thing missing from the reviews
WTF is with the pretend Australians? There are so many talented Australian actors out there... why not engage one to play one of the Aussies?!
Unless they tried that and couldn't get one because they could tell the storyline was bllsht? Perhaps. Yeah. That's probably it.
The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017)
Get him to the Greek meets Deadpool meets safe house
You'll find all the trademark Reynolds humour here, sarcastic dramatic wit. Enjoyable even more as he plays a more vanilla character. But when matched with the over-the-top "stereotyped" humour delivered by Jackson, it's a welcomed switch of role types!
Sprinkle it with a freaking brilliant soundtrack (shout out to Aussie group Spiderbait taking me back to my teens!), I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
Don't expect Oscar winning plot lines here. Instead take it for what it is. Entertainment.
Newton's Law (2017)
Witty, intelligent and needs another season!
Seriously brilliant witty and intelligent writing. Devastated there is only one season. A must watch for all fans of Australian intellectual comedy.
American Horror Story (2011)
Phenomenal
Not every season is amazing. Not every actor is inspiring. But the spotlights are stolen by Evan Peters, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson and of course, Cathy Bates.
Truly unique. Truly inspiring work.
Detectorists (2014)
Brilliance in purity
This show is the epitome of British humour. Sarcastic, tongue in cheek, simplistic and witty. Pure entertainment from start to end.
Detectorists is up there with Black Books for me... and just like Black Books, it left me in a schizophrenic state of wishing there was more to watch and respectfully pleased with the decision to end without disappointment.
Derren Brown: Pushed to the Edge (2016)
'Thrill-Seeker-Reality-TV show by a modern day Stanley Milgram'
So I've just watched Derren Brown: The Push... For my fellow social psychology enthusiasts, I can only describe this "documentary" as a 'Thrill-Seeker-Reality-TV show by a modern day Stanley Milgram'.
Seriously, this was a border-lining ethical nightmare. There is such a massive potential of residual psychological distress/damage for the participants... particularly if there is no on-going support or counseling to combat guilt and/or doubt of their core morals and character.
All this under the guise of teaching society to think before blindly following (or believing) the "Man"?
Hmmmmmm.
