Stranger Things: Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt (2019)
Cringy Things
Very disappointed in this season. From the Soviets secretly spawning below a mall, to the gross mind-flayer- the whole season reminded me of 90s action movies with Arnold Schwarzenegger! (Nothing against Arnie, but I wanted the good old 80s teenage mystery vibe, that the previous 2 seasons created so well!) The acting and special effects were on point of course, and moreover, I was thoroughly impressed by the ACTUAL RUSSIANS playing the Soviets. Bret Gelman (Murray Bauman) killed it with his Russian! (I am half Russian, so it pisses me off when Hollywood casts non-Russian speakers in movies!).
They clearly tried to escalate things, but they focused on action scenes & gore more than the story arch. It was boring!
Game of Thrones: The Last of the Starks (2019)
2 years for this?
This is the least favourite episode of all season or may be even time!
Despite me being super angry at the death of another Dragon, I will try to explain my reasons without involving my emotions:
1. Dany flying with her 2 Dragons like she is in a park, and there is no war happening was ridiculous. Someone who lost 1 Dragon should have been more aware and wise. I understand that killing another Dragon was necessary for the storyline of Dany turning into the "Mad Queen", but it could have been done in a proper battle!
2. Her not seeing the fleet from high above is another assumption that the viewers are stupid! What happened to the spies and war reports? It's like she just came down from heaven on a unicorn and never experienced the dirty tricks of war!
3. Dragons are shown to be pretty dumb! They are predators! They are MAGIC! You want to tell us that they cannot learn, cannot adjust and need to wait for Daenerys to tell them how to maneuver & attack the ships? Goddammit! How the hell do they hunt then?!
4. Jon not saying a proper good bye to Ghost made me want to scream into the faces of D&D! Wow, just wow!
5. Not making a worthy scene of Sansa's & Arya's reactions to Jon's truth- you had to damn years to shoot this season, and you didnt make a scene for this big spill? Disappointing!
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
The best Zombie battle ever!
It was a night, in which the living were battling DEATH itself. It was not going to be pretty, many would die. The reason none of the main characters were not killed off, was because there were 3 more episodes left!
Arya killing the Night King was perfect! After he wasn't killed with Dragon fire, it was pretty clear that going against him with full force would not work. It needed a cunning inconspicuous approach and Arya, being the faceless assassin she is, was the One.
Story & Cinematography- fear, shock and an inevitable end, with a tiny bit of hope. Loved it!
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
A perfect conclusion
A story like Game Of Thrones could never have a happy ending. I would like to offer an unbiased opinion & not criticize the writers, just because a "happy-ever-after" will not come to pass, and my favourite character has lost her marbles.
1. Daenerys going mad- many have already said it. The writers of the show were leading to this for a while now. And it is not surprising. Anyone would go crazy with grief!
2. Cersei's death- it was perfect! She was terrified, she didn't "want to die", "not like this". Everything she planned failed. Her shock at actually seeing Daenerys turn the city into a hell pit was so great. Dany didn't even bother targeting Cersei specifically- she ignited everything and let the destruction catch Cersei , a cowering rat, in the dungeons, next to Dragons' skulls. Till the last moment she was clinging to that hope of survival, but it was taken from her. She wont have a grave, no one even knows OR cares where the "queen" is. She died insignificantly, something she always strived not to be- insignificant. It was the most beautiful irony!
3. Horrors of a city under siege- again perfectly executed, story and cinematography wise! The gore, the terrified crowd jammed in the city's narrow streets, women getting raped in the middle of the fight.
4. Emotions- it was a roller-coaster. From the growing unease from Dany's mania, to her amazing strategic Dragon attacks, to the city's surrender, to Tyrion's shock that she would actually decide to destroy King's Landing, to Cersei's shock, to Jon's attempts to actually stay honorable & control the lust for blood, to Arya's attempts to escape the doom...
It was an amazing episode- emotions, cinematography- wise.
People criticizing this are just mad that their theories didn't pan out. You have to be fair in this.
Taboo (2017)
"James Keziah Delaney" sounds like a magical incantation to me!
I am so obsessed with this show! I have no friends left who haven't heard about it.
From the music tracks, to the costumes, to the locations, to the story and how it escalates with the bloody details and intensity. I would watch anything with Tom Hardy, and this is just brilliant and unique for our modern times. Watched it twice already. Will rewatch it again before the next season!
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015)
A great competition to Hunger Games
I was reluctant to see the movie, since I haven't seen the first installation and was told that it's not that great. However, I was pleasantly surprised- this is an action-packed movie, which keeps you on the edge of your seat. There is friendship, loyalty, determination, vengeance, talent for trouble, rebellion, betrayal. Every thing an adventure-loving person will enjoy! Not to mention a great cast, and 3 people from Game Of Thrones series! I find it quite similar to the concept of Hunger Games- set in a post apocalyptic era, with a bunch of kids rebelling against a dominating organization. However, it is not a copy-cat of Hunger Games, it has it's own unique story-line, and that is why it is a great movie! There was nothing I did not like about it! May be the lack of water supply was far-fetched, considering the distance covered by the heroes. Nevertheless, I am definitely looking forward to a sequel!
