Harriet (2019)
A must-see must-see!! Ignore the bah humbugs!
You can go online to read about the many accomplishments of Harriet Tubman, a truly amazing woman. As the granddaughter of one of the original suffragettes, and great great granddaughter of the lawyer who helped free the Amistad slaves, I have always loved knowing about people such as Harriet. I was distraught when the current Administration decided to delay putting her on our $20 bill, but I hope with enough vocal and motivated people seeing this fabulous film, she will be reinstated on the bill, and it will be issued soon. No, it's not a documentary, as most feature films are not. But did they get most of the facts and incredible feats of Harriet Tubman into the film? Yes they did!! Can't believe so many bah humbugs don't like this because it wasn't perfectly accurate; but so what? Good filmmaking tells a good story, and good filmmaking inspires those who have seen it to read more about the real people who are in that story. Slavery and racism on our planet are things that humans are still fighting. This is an excellent film to show how an undaunted human Spirit, one with a real vision for Justice, can make a difference for so many fellow humans! A great film like this can go a long way in educating and informing people who have no idea what is really going on. And those who do know about the life and accomplishments of Harriet Tubman will appreciate that her story is being told in such a powerful way!! The Acting was superb, the cinematography excellent, and the music score Simply Amazing!! May we see more excellent films like this, which tell the stories of people who never sought the spotlight, but who have made such a difference in human history!!!
Water for Elephants (2011)
EXCELLENT!!!!! Very true to the book, excellent acting by all ((*:*))
i loved the book & i loved the movie, & will go see it a few more times, taking many friends with me. YES, it's that good!!! When one goes to the movie made from the book one loves, it's always with a bit of trepidation, knowing how things can turn out. KUDOS to Richard LaGravenese for writing an excellent screenplay from Sara Gruen's excellent novel! We were pleasantly surprised how well they included all of the most important points of Depression Era Circus life (and the story line), and happy that it was PG-13, and not the R of the book (which means we can take a larger variety of folks to the movie.)
Each of the actors was excellent, capturing the true feeling of the characters in the book.
Loved the animals, tho we missed the Yak at the end of the story..... and Tai was a FABULOUS Rosie!!! i am POSITIVE that the reviewers who have been giving this excellent movie bad reviews have NOT read the book in it's entirety, or are just Bah-Humbugs when it comes to giving a terrific movie a look-see with OPEN EYES. i was so very anxious to see it for myself so i would know the TRUTH about the movie!!!
Anyone who has read and loved the book will love this movie. Anyone who has been to a circus, or knows the history of the circus life over the generations, will greatly appreciate Water For Elephants.
WELL DONE, ALL of the cast and crew!!!!!!
Paul (2011)
Gratuitous Yuk Over The Top
very Sad....Jeremy had a short but Sweet role, the 2 main stars were charming, funny, & not too gross, but the gratuitous TERRIBLE language & jokes were waaaayyyy over the top... don't know if it could be crafted into a PG or PG13, but if it could be, it might be fun. GREAT shots of NM throughout!! i love Jesus, & was disgusted at the way they portrayed the 2 Christians in the movie--try THAT with any other religion, & heads would roll..... THANKFULLY, Jesus is the #1 Forgiveness Guy!!! i should have known when i read this page http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1092026/parentalguide#certification and saw ''56 f-words etc etc,'' that i should not let the pull of Jeremy & NM overcome my good senses..... :*( i am definitely not a prude; all in our group (many ages)also thought it was way over the top....
i wonder what ''they'' were thinking, it could have been SUCH a sweet, funny movie~ or maybe it was meant to be this gross.......
Kid Nation (2007)
GREAT to watch kids have such a life-changing experience & grow in positive ways!!
it was sad how many negative comments were flying around the media before Kid Nation was even aired!! we were wondering what it was going to be like, but decided to Tivo anyway. the crew was SO creative with the challenges and rewards etc etc. it was a joy to see the kids mature and grow---so many arrived spoiled and unwilling to jump in there, but they really changed over the weeks and we fell in love with each of them!!! they dealt with human conflict often better than adults, and in the end knew it was much more than an opportunity to be on a TV show..... it was an amazing opportunity to pull together and form a family/community, and make life-long friends!!!! we look forward to the Bonanza Annual Reunion, and know how this experience changed their lives---what will they become as adults? how will they influence our world? GOOD JOB KIDS!!! GOOD JOB PRODUCERS AND CREW!!!!!!!! PS...great to see old Daisytown transformed!!!
The Naked Archaeologist (2005)
one of THE BEST shows on TV!
my husband and i are so glad we discovered this show, and we have told everyone we know about it. he combines so many great aspects of history, goes right where the events happened, talks to professionals and historians and the every day person, gaining perspectives on events of the past several thousand years. he intersperses the history with clips from old movies and TV shows, has excellent music, and great editing. my husband has never read the old testament of the Bible until recently, and this show has really brought a lot of that history to life. Simcha is an excellent speaker, playful and humorous, light hearted and silly and serious all wrapped up into one! we eagerly look forward to each week's episode, and hope that the History Channel will continue to make many more episodes. the history of the Bible can be so stuffy, and seem so irrelevant to today's world, but Naked Archaeologist turns all this around for people of all ages. we highly recommend that everyone check out this excellent show!
3 lbs. (2006)
Love this Smart, Excellent, Well written show
WHAT Was CBS thinking by canceling this excellent show? hope they bring it back and fast! the characters are interesting, the situations are very educational and keep your attention. a lot of people out there have brain tumors and other brain injuries, it's something that is very common, and as show this fun and interesting and educational all at once is a rarity. of all the MD shows on the TV today, this breath of fresh air is really wonderful. i sure hope everyone who has enjoyed this short lived show will write CBS and write here and see if it can't come back. just too much junk out there, and we sure were excited that there was a new show.
I Am David (2003)
must see movie for people of all ages
i want so much to comment on this excellent film, but must carefully choose words because half of the fun was seeing this movie for the first time and knowing absolutely nothing about it! i had wanted to see it because Jim Caviezel was in it, and it had been in my netflix queue for over 2 years and was always checked out by someone else. then low and behold, it started appearing last week on the Dish Satellite and i have watched it several times. suffice it to say, it has such a powerful message of love and hope and forgiveness and redemption. the acting is superb, the editing excellent!! i have not read the book, but would certainly love to one day to see if there are any details left out that i would want to know. this is a must see movie for people of all ages!
One Night with the King (2006)
awesome, well done movie. Great Cinematography!
It was an awesome well done movie. Great Cinematography! The story of Esther is one of the most inspiring in the Bible, and not very well known; this movie keeps the spirit and truth of the scriptures alive, and yet makes it very appealing to the modern audience. The acting was excellent, so great to see some of the favorites from time past; Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif, always so great in making their roles come alive! Gorgeous to watch, rich costumes and scenery. a movie the entire family will greatly enjoy. Tell everyone to go see it, to keep those ratings up, so it will stay in the theaters longer, we need more excellent movies such as this!
Die Geschichte vom weinenden Kamel (2003)
WONDERFUL glimpse at Mongolian life!!!!!
we loved this movie so much, the way the people care for their camels, depend on them for so much....... a wonderful glimpse at a way of life that is, sadly, disappearing into the mish-mosh of modern life of TVs etc. Watching the families playing board games, telling stories, communicating, and the kids riding off across the wilderness on their camels; you'll need to watch the movie to find out the nature of their mission, and the outcome.......... And did the children suffer from being tethered to grandma's banco while she babysat and did her chores??? not at all! i'm so glad the film crew captured this vignette for posterity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
