Charlotte Sometimes (2002)
Charlotte Sometimes: A Great Little Film
I am not Asian, yet I totally identify with the mail lead. It's uncanny how true to life this film is. It is my belief that most of the American public shuns this film because it is too truthful about emotional isolation and social isolation. This movie extends beyond racial boundaries and displays the universal truth for all to see. Charlotte Sometimes is like looking into a mirror, which shows all your foibles. We can then examine these foibles and learn from them. One can experience something very unique when examining films that analyze basic human behavior. All in all, I give this little gem eight out of ten stars. Please go to your local video store and rent it.
La strada (1954)
An adorable, funny, sad film.(no spoilers)
Fellini's wife plays the most adorable character ever in this touching comedy/drama. She's so cute in her performance you wish you could give Gelsomina a hug. This might not even be Federico's wittiest movie, but that doesn't matter. I would definitely say it's as good as 8 1/2. Now I want Knights of Cabrina.... but not enough money...Boooooo!
La città delle donne (1980)
Almost as good as 8 1/2 but not quite(Spoilers).
Although there are a couple of scenes that drag on too long and some special effect errors, this film is yet another Fellini classic. I would say that this film is almost as good, but not as good as 8 1/2.
You will laugh harder than you ever have before at a Fellini movie. The scene at the doctor's house will have you rolling on the floor.
Donnie Darko (2001)
Richard Kelly, one of the finest directors today.
There really isn't much to say about Mr. Richard Kelly's efforts on writing and directing on Donnie Darko that has not yet been said. If only other directors would follow this caliber of film making rather than making pointless Hollywood mish mash like 90% of the film industry. This is why I am glad that major actress Drew Barrymore saw fit to give Kelly's script the attention it deserved. Richard's film was and still is a philosophical masterpiece, unlike atrociously bad films such as Waking Life. I wish I could make small, yet sophisticated film and have someone like Drew believe in my talents. Maybe one day someone will take my ideas under their wing. Until that day, it is a blessing to make student films.
