This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
Take the Funny n' Run
Excellent film. VERY funny. If you don't know about this movie, it is about a rock band and there last "great" tour in which they get to learn they are not quite the HUGE rock band they were last time they came to the states. Many funny lines... many memorable things... and the DVD is excellent as far as features, including a full length commentary by the band.
If you haven't seen it and you like mockumentary style movies.... go get/see this one right away. It is far more well-rounded and simply the best of the mockumentary movies made since - more energentic, more varied in humor, more original, etc. One very under appreciated scene (in the special features) includes Bruno Kirby, Frank Sinatra and a pizza crust. Wonderful film, can't say anything others haven't already......see it. One of my favorite comedies period.
Killjoy 2: Deliverance from Evil (2002)
Hell For My Eyes and Mind: Part 2
One day I thought to myself....what is the worst possible thing that could happen today? I answered my self with a simple," Oh, it already happened. I rented Killjoy/Killjoy 2" on DVD. Well, what is there to say? The budget was not large enough to rent a police uniform, the movie cuts out sex scenes and death scenes. There is one funny line that I can remember, and the acting is far worse than the first one. There seems to be no lighting on the "set" (the woods somewhere) and the killer clown known as Killjoy (who makes Leprechaun look like The Exorcist)is less than spectacular. This time, he is not portrayed by Angel Vargas and is completely changed as a character from a crazy irritating clown to a different kind of crazy irritating clown that says "CHILD" a lot. Somewhere between Freddy Krueger and a blade of grass... lies this version of Killjoy. Somewhere between a pile of dirt and a pile of s---t lies Killjoy 2. It's badness is underrated. This movie does not have any redeeming qualities, except the song at the very end over the credits... which at leas provides some enjoyment. Killjoy 2 is not even really a movie, so much as an exercise in tension. Killjoy 1 is at least good enough to be considered as the worst movie I have ever seen. MINOR SPOILER######### Let me describe one of the supernatural kill scenes. A girl is locked in a wood shed of some sort (maybe an outhouse?) when Killjoy peers in through a hole. He has some small chattering teeth (like the ones you can buy at Spencer's Gifts) and he does something with them (maybe winds them up?!). Then he holds them in his hands and says a terrible line (which can't be written on IMDB). From what I gather of this scene (not from what is shown by the movie) the teeth went into the outhouse and killed the girl in some interesting, but unshown way, and then came back to Killjoy. If I were those teeth I would have run. Run far from Killjoy so he could never ever get his hands on me again. Killjoy 2 is hopefully the last Killjoy we will have to endure. Even as a fan of movies others would say are very bad, I think that this "film" could unify the human race and create world peace if it were promised that this film and anything reminding us of it would be destroyed. I give it 2/10 - simply because the creators succeeded at making the pictures move.
Hellraiser (1987)
Original, Scary, Grotesque Horror Film
Not much to say. This is a must see for horror fans. This is definitely not your typical slasher - not at all your scream rip-off movie. A classic - and arguably one of the best - fantasy horror film made to date. Gory, frightening, mythological, and well-thought-out. Although the hook-in-skin effects (you'll know what I mean when you see the movie) are a little lame, the rest of the effects are great. Story is excellent. My only negative comment would be that the story seems to be a little lost in the film (I guess provoking you to go read the book "The Hellbound Heart", by Clive Barker). Meaning, the story is very rich and some parts of it do not get completely told in the film. If you haven't seen it and like horror movies - go rent it.
Jaws 2 (1978)
More,more...less
There is more of everything (except good movie) in this sequel. Yet, it has many fun and enjoyable qualities. More shark...more victims.... more teenagers on sailboats reading poetry and having a grand old time. The shark is larger....and it still has Roy Sheider in his best ocean related roll (sorry, SeaQuest fans). No, this - like Rocky 2-5 - is not the same quality movie that the original is. In fact, this and its following sequels have probably hurt the reputation of its excellent predecessor. Anyway...blah blah. This movie is good. The best of the sequels to Jaws and there are some interesting shark cams (like the top of the fin cam) and some really good shark shots (that look like a trip to Universal studios now) but were probably pretty cool originally. Also; unlike the dumb sharks in the real world - the shark in this movie ROARS!!!
Killjoy (2000)
Funnyman in the hood...but not that good
O.k. The clown on the box is tempting. So, for a year I tried to get people to watch this with me.....didn't happen. Had to rent it one night when my girlfriend was being particularly generous. Killjoy and Killjoy 2 on one DVD. I gave this movie 3/10. This isn't a horror movie, a comedy, or really anything else. There are certain qualities that make you think it's going to be good, then bam...it's not. IMO, this movie doesn't succeed in the ways that it was capabable of succeeding. A very unsatisfying, low (no?)-budget killer clown movie. The clown (Killjoy) himself is annoying, and a little disturbing, but not in the ways he is supposed to be. I thought he was basically John Leguizamo's Violator after Jenny Craig.I thought some of the acting was ok (nerd guy, Killjoy, and one or two others) but there was something about the movie's timing or simply, quality that just didn't work for me. I didn't like it, but basically gave it 3 (as opposed to 1 or 0) because of some VERY SMALL qualities. Positive? A few good lines (that don't really work within the movie but WILL be funny about a week from now to think back on.) Make-up on Killjoy is pretty good.
Funny Man (1994)
Quintessential "Love-it or Hate-it" movie
There is nothing to say. Love it or hate it. See it, and decide for yourself. This film will help you decide what it is, exactly, that you like/dislike about movies. I personally gave it a vote of 10 (but second guessed myself, thinking a 9 might be in order.)
