L'héritier (1973)
A damned good movie
Did you like Le professional? Of course you did. A sad comic lonely fighter strikes back, facing danger without fear, even accepting being victim. A great Belmondo personation. L'Héritier, the Inheritor is the same dramatic personage, but without fun. A very rich and very tough and very honourable man wants to find the killers of his father and finally wants to save his son. Fighting against an invisible enemy. The story is really correct and, incidentally, depicts still existing problems.
Three great actors play a triangle of memorable roles. Tough, strict actions, well balanced dialogues, fatal silences sometimes, sharp cuts, and well supporting music, Philippe Labro and his drew composed a perfect and dark thriller, I mean it. I did not expect the final action, the punishing assassination till the last scenes, but this man really had to die. This is not a Hollywood story.
I saw this movie some twenty five years ago but I kept it on VHS, I had recorded it from TV, and now it's copied on a DVD. I've never met this unforgettable movie again, and I can't imagine the reason of this. Find it somewhere, and see it.
