Nativity Rocks! (2018)
How can meatheads be triggered by a Christmas gilm
Dead easy just film a film with a refugee in and every toss pot between Dover and penrith will say its crap.
Thr film itself is good as long as you don't expect a continuation from the other films
.not as good as 1 and 2 but better than 3. Nice Christmas message in a load of improvisation
The Wave (2019)
Complexly Classic
I enjoy the experience of low budget films. 9 times out of 10 they are eather going to be completely diabolical or pretty fantastic and you dont know which it is until you are watching/ I have to say I was a little put off by the trailer. I've seen trip films before so I was expecting more of the same and I dont think I could have been arsed if it was.. What I found was something all together different and better. The drugs were used (in my opinion) to conceal what was going on rather than to be the main drive of the story itself.. The direction and acting are second to none. The production, although budget, held together very well .After watching in the first time I still didn't get it to be honest bt I did get that it was a special film. After watching it again it did make total sense. but I only got this by putting the beginning into the ending and then working backwards. It seemed like Jacobs Ladder mixed with The Game but it was different enough to not bee a rip off. I think all films are subjective and people will like different things. I do feel with this one though that a lot of people who don't like it struggled because they thought it was something it wasn't it was all together more beautiful but the pre-conceptions led to mis-reading the film. It did also take 2 watches to get the story. With most films that would be annoying but with this one I sort of expected it.
Saving God (2008)
Great
I loved this film. The acting in it is second to none. I think its one of the few films I've watched recently where every character is believable. The story is relatively dark but this, along with the great acting makes the story real. The film doesn't pretend to represent the entire subculture in which it is set but instead is an ethnography of a few characters along with the more generic empowerment of a belief in God. I personally think the film could miss making its point with those who want to watch an overtly religious film or those who want to watch a film about gang warfare. However the film does catch the range of beauty, brutality, egocentric revenge and compassionate forgiveness that we as people can experience. Cracking film - could really do with a squeal :-)
The Host (2013)
Intelligent Sci-Fi
I loved this film. It is intelligent and if you don't want to (or find it hard to) engage with a story line that contains talking and plot instead of shooting then this film isn't for you. But if you like stories on the deeper side then this may be your cup of tea. In places it is deeply philosophical if you like looking out for this type of content – everything from altruistic suicide to questions such as is murder/killing justified and which is which are pondered by the film. It went a little "chicky" for me in a couple of places but that was OK because the overall content made the film special and well worth a 10. It wasn't exciting, its not a battle film, not many explosions but that does'nt make it bad, instead it gives time to develop the characters and allows time to lead into the overall theme of the film. There are some lovely little twists within in. One in particular seemed to go a bit too far into sop but then again it didn't really detract from the overall experience. Great acting did'nt make up for anything because although the acting was great there was nothing really to make up for. Limited CGG really added to the film without swamping it. The film would have worked without it which is really a great positive in todays age. Overall well done to everyone involved with it.
Hereafter (2010)
Almost but not quite
I liked the story a lot and I liked the idea of the three stories meeting up. Special effect were good and the acting was great so why not 10 out of 10. The pace of the film is slow intermingled with some faster sections which I liked but some parts didn't make sense on the first viewing (and I haven't watched it again yet). How come one of the stories was set in France. There was no need for this at all - the subtitles just got in the way and the background got in the way of the subtitles. Silly really to make a film deliberately for subtitles and the film in such a way as you can't read them half of the time. Secondly the three plots didn't exactly collide when a slight re-write could have made some point into having all three stories in it. This was a shame and a great let down. The three stories seemed to merge into two almost totally unrelated separate stories instructed of one. I'm pleased I watched it and I will watch it again but I felt very disappointed in what could have been a classic.
