Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
I had pretty high expectations having seen the trailer, but the movie exceeded my expections by a huge margin
I had not seen the original movie, but having seen the amazing work Tom Cruise does not cut corners in, I had pretty high expectations for Top Gun Maverick even before I set foot in cinema.
Having seen it, the movie pretty much shattered all my expectations! The action is amazing, and the visuals were thrilling and stunning. It was such a fresh breath of air with all generic CGI character villains and heroes defying physics, but Top Gun Maverick had done a jaw dropping work in thrilling visuals, engaging character arcs, and a sound track to remember!
I watched it for a second time too, and simply enjoyed it as much as my first run.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Predictable, and feels so disconnected from the previous movies
The franchise was going downhill, but this is a massive let down and was a terrible movie.
There are no character arcs or development, and the movie feels like nothing but a cash grab buy exploiting what you loved with the old characters and themes, but with a very poor script, performance, and cinematography.
Asandhimitta (2018)
A pleasant surprise from the typical "Sunil T" movies
I had my expectations high when I went to the cinema, knowing the previous titles by the director. From the very first minute, I was glued to the screen filled with curiosity what would happen next.
Nilimini, the main actress is equally good as the veterans in the movie such as Yashodha and Dharmapriya, and they all deliver such an amazing movie with a story that you wouldn't forget for a while. Nilimini, despite this being her first movie, is brilliant and I can't imagine anyone else to deliver such a realistic performance. Bravo!
While the character transitions could be better, the delivery of the story, timing, pace, the use of words and screen, and everything else were excellent!
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
The best Spider-Man movie yet!
I was impressed from the get-go with the trailer, and the movie delivered quite well!
It's beautiful to watch, and the comic book style graphics are simply awesome! With several super-hero movies a year, I know this is the movie I'd remember from this year!
This is a masterpiece with a nice balance with music, graphics, story telling and thrill. Post-credit scene is fun and Stand Lee cameo couldn't melt our hearts more!
The Nun (2018)
Utter dissapointment
Just came back from the cinema and I feel like I wasted time and money on this movie.
The plot (if you call it one) is cliche and gives nothing fresh. The actress of Irene does a good job but everyone else is just nothing worthy.
Many cheap jump scares but keep you bored throughout the movie with the obvious and cheap plot lines.
The Last Man on Earth (2015)
A good idea well wasted
I'm agreeing to other reviews here. The first episode was promising, and I really hoped it would turn out to be a unique show. But after a few episodes, it started to be unoriginal and boring with cow jokes and so on.
The latter episodes even made me doubt myself with the least bit of reality.
Other TV series, such as the Walking Dead and Evolution always have a sense of what would happen if there was a mass disaster and try to be realistic and logical to the viewers. The Last Man On Earth was fair enough in that area, but only for the first two-three episodes. Lack of water supply, power, and yet Phil using vehicles without power, getting fuel out of the petrol stations, but lack of skills to fix a door or clean a pool. Then he gets a cute little water supply to his wife's flower pots from a giant water tank that is supposed to feed a city...Not exactly logic.
The idea is original though I should appreciate that. There are many Zombie or Alien stories out there but this one makes a comedy out of the same setup.
Samanala Sandhawaniya (2013)
Felt like my own child life fantasy
Samanala Sandhawaniya, (or Butterfly Symphony in English) is an absolutely heart-touching story. Film is based on a very good screenplay that touched my own child-life fancy stories. It's based between 90's culture and the current day, and the entire crew is doing their best job to recreate the 90's culture (school, public transport, central province of Sri Lanka, etc).
Yashoda Wimaladharma, without-doubt, has done an excellent job in her charming and lovely character. Vadeesha's child life actor and the elder actor are also doing their best, specially the younger Vadeesha's character is excellent considering he's younger yet shows off his love to her in sincere facial expressions.
Film is not just a love story. You will definitely find this film written with a very good sense of humor as well. Pubudu Chathuranga, Vadeesha's elder brother is back with his regular comedy and powerful acting.
Music and songs in the film must be mentioned and they are absolutely heart touching and quote enjoyable.
Without the entire team's great work, the story won't make any sense a child loving to someone secretly who is clearly out of age group and reach. It's not about the logic, it's the feeling that they have made it really closer to the heart and makes anyone do the same.
Action Replayy (2010)
Good movie for simple enjoyment
Action Replayy is a quite entertaining film but it was tagged to "Sci-Fi". This entire film full of humor but for those who expect a science fiction traveling back to the past and making changes that reflect in the future, will be disappointed.
Film starts with Bhikku's parents are fighting and Bhikku frightened to marry his girlfriend.
He then travels back to the past and the big part of the movie starts.
60s-70s environment shown in the film is beautiful and Akshay and Aishwarya are doing their regular superb performance to recreate those characters' past with a good sense of humor.
Music across the film is one of the reason why I appreciate the film very much. First hour of the film describes the young age of Bhikku's father (Krishen) but he loves Mala even though she is clearly out of his league with his appearance and behavior. Bhikku then helps his own father to be attractive and the film gets even more funnier.
I have a similar background and I find character names (Mala, Krishen, etc), locations, music very 70s.
