FAR: Changing Tides (2022)
Great!
It was another pleasant experience, just like its predecessor. Visually more impressive, filled with moments that you'd want to screenshot. Slightly more complex gameplay wise, but puzzles are still pretty easy. Pacing was good, except one bit that felt a little drawn out (you'll know it when you're there). The music wasn't as memorable as the first game, but still pretty good. I was going to rate it 7, until the ending elevated to an 8. It was well-done, and opens up interesting opportunities for a possible sequel.
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Good
A good movie that is slightly let down by its cringey dialoagues in some places.
Cyberpunk 2077 (2020)
A flawed masterpiece
Definitely has its flaws. But most of the flaws are very much fixable, and CDPR has already promised to fix the obvious ones. But once you overlook those flaws, at the core of it, Cyberpunk 2077 is a brilliant game with some of the best stories, characters and quests I've ever played. And it sets up an astounding world that has so much potential. Whicht I'm sure CDPR will explore further with future expansions and sequels.
Vir Das: For India (2020)
Fantastic set
Fantastic standup set from Vir Das. Some jokes genuinely made me burst out in laughter. But a lot of references and jokes will proably be hard to follow for people who are not from the Indian subcontinent. Would still 100% recommend to anyone who is a fan of good comedy. One of the best standup specials I have seen in recent years.
Long Shot (2019)
Meh
A formulaic rom-com that never really attempts to break the mould.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Don't trust the critics
Go judge it for yourselves. I liked it and I can confidently say most casual moviegoers and casual superhero enthusiasts will find it enjoyable, if they watch it with an open mind and grounded expectations. And if you're a hardcore comic book fan, you'll definitely like it, unless you're an irrational Marvel fan. Some people could find the first half of the movie a little confusing. They tried to fit a lot of information in a very short time. But it wasn't a big issue for me. Acting was top notch. Special mention to Eisenberg. I believe looking the part and acting the part are two entirely different things. Eisenberg doesn't look the part, but he certainly acted it well. To those critics who say the movie is not funny, they are too thick to understand the wit and humour of this movie. To them funny probably means Bruce Banner falling face first on Natasha's boobs or a stereotyped Latino as comic relief. I am not a conspiracy believer, but if a reviewer goes to a superhero movie with a predetermined idea of what a superhero movie should be like, then I have a problem with it. Superhero genre is becoming too big to be contained in one formulated type. The movie played out way differently than what we thought from the trailers, and I loved it. My rating is 8.5. Go watch it!
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Great action film but not a great film overall
I went to watch this film buzzing with expectation. All the internet buzz, all those great ratings and reviews had me expecting that I'm going to watch a modern day masterpiece. Although it was a visually astonishing film, it falls short in many other aspects. It will in all probability be considered a landmark work in terms of visual effects in future, but it wasn't a masterpiece.
I know too much expectations always leaves you unsatisfied, but even hours after watching it, when I think about it with an open mind, my opinion about the film doesn't change. The movie is filled with amazing action set-pieces, brilliant locations, cinematography, but is that all you want from a movie? No. The biggest letdown is the story. It is disappointingly dull. Absolutely nothing interesting happens in the story. It's a century old formula; Group A trying to go from Point A to Point B and Group B is trying to stop them. It is so awfully simple that it feels like a R rated movie with a PG story. The actors didn't really have much to do, they are all good actors and did what was asked of them, but none of the performances from this film will ever be remembered for anything other than the cool actions they did.
If you're going to watch this film, don't make the same mistake I did. Don't expect to see a masterpiece. Go to be entertained and you will be.
