Little Man (2005)
a family in crisis
there are almost no words to describe what this family went through in this adverse situation. first and at the center was this tiny little baby's fight for life. this compelled one mother's heart to give up all she was doing and focus completely on little Nicholas, to will him to live. she was the driving force behind whether he lived or died. the second mother had to pick up the slack at home with another child and all the bills and running of the household. so the second story in this documentary was the relationship between the two women. would they come to see the things that were going on as a family or would this situation drive them apart? it was a very delicate balance that they danced around and somewhere in the middle was an innocent, delicate, in crisis baby boy.
Elena Undone (2010)
a very good love story
Elena Undone is one of the best indie and also lesbian movies i've seen in a long time. the acting by both main actresses was compelling. they had a lot of chemistry even without the love scenes. the other actors did a very good job as well. i'll mention Mary Wells as one of the best and Sabrina Fuster as a newcomer was surprisingly at ease in front of the camera. as for the story it was romantic but also had moments of tension and heartbreak. Nicole Conn, the director and writer was very good at getting all there was to get out of each actor, especially Traci and Necar. i could almost feel what each was going through in the very intense moments. there was also a lot of chemistry though not romantic between Traci and Mary. they really seemed like true friends. over all i'd say this movie should attract many people, more than just the lesbian population. it is first and foremost a love story.
Waking Madison (2010)
beautiful and trippy at the same time
Waking Madison was one of those movies that i thought maybe i won't like it as much as i should because of all the hype leading up to it. But i was totally wrong! this movie is trippy but in a good way. It throws you off balance and makes you wonder what the next scene will bring. The directing was right on and the cinematography was beautifully done. The set and special effects enhanced the feel of the story. There was a kind of ghostliness about it. This was a well scripted movie with excellent acting from each of the cast members. It was a hard movie to portray in that it's subject matter is complicated, but each actor rose to the occasion and really put themselves in vulnerable positions to enhance their performances. I watched it last night and i can't wait to watch it again today. Watch out for a killer ending!
