Los renglones torcidos de Dios (2022)
Somewhat disappointing
I am a big fan of Oriol Paulo, who I think is on par with the greatest contemporary Spanish Directors like Amenabar. Almodovar and Alex de lglesia.
That is why it is so disappointing to find a script with so many holes in it. So many twists and turns were simply unbelievable.
I mean, who on earth is going to believe that two twins can be born in an asylum in the Spain of the 1980s and live there henceforth?
Or, what happened with the coroner after she was attacked by Alice and, more importantly, how come that Alice was not made accountable for attacking her?
Why all car registration numberplates were fake? Anyone who is familiar with car registrations in Spain would notice that those numberplates would not be legal. Why not use real numberplates to add authenticity to the film?
The film also lacks pace... i found myself extremely bored at times. However, I found it well acted, produced and directed.
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
A total waste of time
I wasted the entire length of the film waiting for a twist in the story that would make the time I invested watching the movie worthwhile.
To no avail. It was a total waste of time.
Hitting the Apex (2015)
Exhilarating and emotional
What a fantastic movie! As a long-term fan of the sport, having watched all but a few of the GPS of the last 45 years, I can safely say that Hitting the Apex conveys all the thrill you can experience by watching a Moto GP race.
The only criticism I could make is the inclusion of Simoncelli as a true great... I understand the drama that his premature passing away can bring to the movie, but he never actually won a race in the Premier Class... He does not really deserve to be there with the others...
Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007)
Pathetic pamphlet
Visually astounding, well directed and acted but historically pathetic.
I Am Mother (2019)
The best made bad movie
I am sorry, but this is the best made bad movie I have seen for years. Decent directing and sometimes bright actor performances but an awful script let's the whole thing down. Science-fiction does not mean incredible
Contratiempo (2016)
Forget your preconceptions about Spanish movies
Think about great movie-making such as that made by Amenabar, Almodovar or Bayona, and then give it a notch more. This rates as the best thriller I have seen in years... Hollywood better take note!
