After the Party (2023)
Brave, inspiring and Depressing all at the same time.
Robyn Malcolm plays her role exceptionally well In this necessary but depressing story. Is It is set in Wellington NZ and the cinematography was brilliant. New Zealand certainly are aiming to punch high and they are very successeful with this drama.
I binged watched over two days - only because it was such a potent, emotionally draining drama to view too quickly. It really kept me guessing until the last episode. And that was due in part to the perfect acting by Robyn Malcolm with me believing every part her character expressed. Having said that her co-star Peter Mullen played his role exceptionally well. Very difficult role to play considering the subject matter.
All actors were so amazing.
Give us more of this quality drama pleeeese New Zealand.
The Assistant (2019)
No Me TOO here.
Probably very factual. If so very demoralising. I know every movie can't be hearts and flowers but......................
Should have read the preview. More demoralising to realise that despite the Me Too movement the actions (or non actions) of men, women and society still exist which caused the Me Too movement to explode.
The only good thing about this movie was the exposure of the subtlety and normalisation of the abuse. Especially the normalisation which hopefully encourages some viewers to realise that is the most dangerous aspect we, as women in particular have to be aware of.
I was screaming at the screen willing Julia Garner (who was the only good thing about this movie) to get her gloves on.
I guess upon reflection all the actors were doing their job. Making themselves appear either beaten down, sexist or misogynist.
Reptile (2023)
Acting-superb, Story line - realistic, Filmography - sensational
Benico del Tora and Justin Timberlake as well as the other actors shine in their characters.
A corrupt police film portrayed in a slow fashion which is very realistic for this type of film.
Don't believe the bad reviews but read them anyway. You have to wonder what planet the reviewers were on at the time.
Should be nominated for awards. Acting, directing etc.
As for Benico del Tora - oh man, what an actor he is.
Justin Timberlake also amazing as was Alicia Silverstone.
Suspenseful throughout the entire film. Nothing boring here.
What more can one wish for except a follow up film.
Please and thank you.
61st Street (2022)
For real?
I'm from Oz. Does this kind of 'policing' occur every where in the good ole' USA?
I'm so angry as I watch this. Kudos to the writer. I know our so called 'Police' have been using discrimination at the very least towards our indigenous Australians but I hoped it had improved in the USA.
Especially with regard to the police who are supposed to serve and protect.
It's only when a blaring light can be shone on issues like this can we
hope to cut through the absolute lies.
Thank the people for BLACK LIVES Matter. And the wonderful writers, musicians and artists who are also warriors in cutting through the racism.
So well acted.
Thank you for the truth.
Deadloch (2023)
Slow burn, but worth it towards the end
Well, what can I say? Fabulous, innovative and great writing and acting. Although states it is a comedy it is way more. Comedy is used in a very clever way to portray satire and serious issues such as domestic violence, gender stereotypes in relation to careers, sports and general life.
A show which depicts a huge range of characters who are very true in real life.
The character 'Eddie' is hard to watch initially but she has been directed to play her character like this. As the series progresses her character opens up more and shows why she is like she is.
This show is a surprise package and becomes more meaningful as the show continues. All in all a Aussie show with an important story to tell.
The Killing (2011)
Acting okay, but the Danish version is much better.
Why copy something that is perfect? This is what has occurred with this American version of the wonderful Danish drama 'The Killing'. At first I thought this show was dubbed with American voices. It was really strange. I don't think it was but the sound was a bit surreal. The same suspenseful music which, perhaps if you had not viewed the Danish one first would not be considered kitsch. Possibly would watch the American version again but as the original Danish version is being repeated on another channel at the same time I will probably end up watching that to tie up some loose ends which often occur in a complex drama such as this. American version second best by a long shot.
After the Deluge (2003)
Best drama with outstanding performances from an Australian cast.
Wow!!! Cannot believe I have not seen this show yet. Is it the actors, director, producer or what that makes this series the best I have ever seen? I watched it now (2011) and thought it was made in 2010, it is so timeless. David Wenham is perhaps my favorite Australian actor actually more like my most fav actor of all time. As usual he is splendid in this as well. To get all the other cast members to be just as brilliant must be a combination of direction and what else? Flawless in every way. Aussies are unique and the best filmmakers ever when given half a chance. We really leave the yanks for dead regarding realism in a story. What a real portrayal of dementia. So sad. Enough said.
