The Old Guard (2020)
Very, very formuleric
After introduction the story line devolves into a tired old plot line emblematic of writers who cannot think of anything else. It's one belief suspension accepting immortality or something close to it but another belief suspension accepting distortions of physics. But, as previously stated the writers did not think of that. Nor did they consider the training their "new" member would have had before plotting an event that training makes unbelievable.
As with all formulaic plot lines the audience knows what comes next. All that remains for the viewer after the first half is anticipation of potential plot twists and character embellishment. Too bad.
Another Life: Hello (2019)
Last minute careless script
A shuttle crew walks into the cave of a primitive being to find an advanced version of Alexa. 10 episodes with only the first 2 and the last 2 worth watching.I skipped the 6 in the middle. They were plot filler.
The only thing I can say about the abysmal science in this fiction is at least rockets in space make no noise.
Give it a pass.
Killing Eve (2018)
Excellent Acting but Lousy Story Line
It's a pleasure to watch Sandra Oh. Her performance and that of a number of the other players is a treat. However, I just can't set aside the horrible story lines. The plot of an international elite killer chased by a dedicated police officer has been with us since Victor Hugo. It should be done better.
How is it that so few are aware of weekly high profile international assassinations?
How is it that MI-5, the police, is not involved but MI-6, the spies, is?
How is it that INTERPOL has not seen the weekly carnage and launched investigations.
Why has the assassin left fingerprints at every killing?
Why has no agency collected them?
The Ides of March (2011)
Could have been better
Outstanding performances by Giamatti and Hoffman as is nearly everything they do. Ides of March starts off with high energy looking forward to the make or break state presidential primary. It could have kept us in suspense as we watched political intrigue and the drama of back dealing unfold from both sides. Instead we watch Ryan Gosling's affair with an intern become the center of a silly who slept with who. Unbelievably, Mr. Goslings character who is supposedly politically savvy beyond his years commits a blunder one would expect of a teenager. After that happened Ides of March no longer held interest. Admittedly, the last five minutes did redeem the dull middle somewhat.
