Into the Woods (2014)
Very Good.. at Disappointing
I was waiting for this movie for last one year hoping it would be as good as its previous counterparts like "Maleficent" and "Snow white and the Huntsman" or the previous versions of animated movies starring the characters of this movie. The result was UTTER DISAPPOINTMENT.
It is a rare phenomenon that a movie could be so mediocre with so many good actors working in it. Dragging a musical movie for almost 2 hours and that too without a strong story line made it apparent that this movie was made just for the sake of making a movie.
As far as acting is concerned, it was good. Everyone tried to gave his/her 100% but very weak story line stopped them from giving the best they could in normal circumstances.
For me, it was below average movie and time should be saved by not watching it. 2/10.
Bi xie lan tian (1998)
Good Action of 90s
This movie was my first encounter with any Hong Kong film. I watched this movie back in 1999 (on a VCR cassette).
The story line is like many other holly wood movies produced at that time: "A patriotic cop in a difficult and life saving situation". Action is sloppy sometimes but the martial arts is quite good.
Acting of lead cast both hero and villain is convincing (except the female lead because her performance was over-loud and not up to the standards).
Dubbing could have been more better. Over all 6/10.
If you can bear the 90's action, it is a good movie to watch.
World War Z (2013)
Not a Typical Zombie Movie
When I saw posters of this movie, the first thing that came to my mind was the "Zombie Attack". Keeping in view my history with the "Zombies (in the fiction off course)", I thought of this movie as a typical horror with some Brad Pitt "Extra".
But When I actually saw the movie, I came to know, I was quite wrong in my perception. As opposed to many other movies on the Zombies subject, this particular movie is a actually a good combination of horror, thriller, disaster & some good humor lines. One thing that I particularity noticed was the bloodless action making it perfect for family and audience of all ages.
Brad Pitts performance was excellent as usual and I think his presence in the movie would have attracted a lot of Pitt's fan base (even those who do not like the Zombie genre). Other actors performed well too.
All in all it was a good movie and I give it 7/10.
Never Let Me Go (2010)
A Brilliant Movie
I have never written a review for any of the 900+ movies i have seen to date but this movie has pushed me to do it. Truly, I do not have words for the concept, the performance / acting of the cast (although very young, but too good and Andrew Garfield & Carey mulligan are now officially my favorite actors), nor I have seen a movie with so much helplessness and darkness. This movie has literally made me cry (esp the last 15 minutes). People may say that concept /theme presented in this movie is way too fictional but its the brilliance of the director & screen writer that they have given SOMETHING for the screen. And that's what's fantasy is. To me, its a must watch movie.
