Think of this as Ingmar Bergman's "Wild Strawberries" or Woody Allen's Strawberries/"Deconstructing Harry." It's a sweet film enhanced by Burt Reynolds performance. Underrated as an actor with great comedic timing, his charm helps bring depth to this film. Some technical glitches and sentimental moments, but an enjoyable tale.

Cauth this film at its'New York City premier, and I congratulate the production team for a job well done. I've been following the progress of this indie film for close to a year. It began as a short titled "Lilies of the Feast,"which was the original title of the feature version.
The story works, you just got go with it and then - boom - a surprise ending. No spoilers here. Set in Brooklyn in the 1970's, with a good feel for life back then.
Good casting by Eve Battaglia - with particularly good work by lead Troy Garity, and David Provale at his best. An excellent directing debut by Federico Castelluccio. If you like the mob genre, then watch this film

I saw this at a screening today where the audience was all actors, writers and their guests.
I must say it was a total delight! Many do not realize Dustin began as a concert pianist (and has a great sense of humor). Both his joy of music and impish comedy are what makes film a gem. The performances are spot-on. I'm always pleased to see stories to reflect what life will be like as we age. We don't just curl up and lose our minds. Growing old isn't for sissies!
I hope this film gets a wider release. Be sure to put this on your rental list if you're unable find a near-by theater - you won't be disappointed.

Saw this doc at it's official opening night at NYC's IFC Center. Just wonderful. The title is spot on, "Affair of the Heart"....It's about the love fans hold for Rick Springfield, and the love he holds for his fans. You don't need to know or like his music to enjoy this film.
The documentary team follows Rick around the world to various concerts, but this is not so much about his music, but about how he does this for his fans - who are as loyal as they come.
The director, Sylvia Caminer, does another great job - she has really grown as a filmmaker. Her heart is ever present. You'll really feel as if you know each of the highlighted fans, and Rick. The editor does a stupendous job.
Go see it, you won't regret a moment.

This is what movies are about:
It's a compelling story, flawless acting with spot-on casting choices, deftly directed, and with camera work supports the story with warm tones. I don't know of one person who has seen this and doesn't rave. The Oscar race begins here. It's wonderful to be rapt in a film that doesn't need explosions, chases or CGI to make the film work.
Every person involved in the making of this film is an artisan. If your a budding filmmaker, class is in session - a must see.
Duval and Spacek are in their prime - there's also a lesson here that youth and beauty are only skin deep... and talent grows with age.

This is a sentimental and delightful holiday tale of family....but isn't that exactly what you'd expect from a holiday film? The story hold would hold up even if it weren't set in the holiday period. The story is about a large family gathering at Christmas with secrets revealed and lots of love to go around.
What I liked most is how well the ensemble cast works - each character blends wonderfully and is superbly cast; each actor gets a moment to shine...the story moves forward and unfolds well with laughs and tears. Sarah Jessica Parker does a great job creating a nervous quirky character that becomes more at ease with herself - I think it's her best work (I never really like Sex and the City) she is funny, warm and totally inhabits the character, who evolves before our eyes. A fun film and worth seeing. The cast includes Dianne Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Dermot Mulroney, Craig T. Nelson, Luke Wilson and Claire Danes.All do great jobs to this good story.

A film of family values and believing

I was privy to see and advance screening of this film, schedule to open in the US October 21, 2005. It's in the same genre as SEABISCUIT -but it's not all about the horse or the race, it's about a family rekindling their love for each other, and it's about believing in oneself no matter what the odds. Kurt Russell offers a warm performance, well photographed....this is sure to be an enjoyable film the family can all enjoy.It is also nice to see that the entire project was filmed on location in the US. Good support work by Kris Kristoferson and Elizabeth Shue...and there's the darling Dakota Fanning - what will we do when she grows up?
