Bye Bye Birdie (1995 TV Movie)

Excellent musically
15 October 2019
This is 10 times better than the original movie. A lot more songs, better sung than in the other movie. I can't compare it with the musical because I have never seen it in that form. However, all involved did such a great job. The only reason it doesn't deserve a 10 is because of the casting of Kim. They really couldn't find a younger girl? She doesn't look 16 by any stretch of the imagination. Everyone else was perfect. Vanessa Williams looks so Latina and her singing is right on point. Jason Alexander actually looks handsome. And I can't stop talking about how much better job they did with the music, the singing, the harmonies, etc. I can't believe I've never knew about this movie until today.

Done for people who don't know about classical music
23 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The movie director Chuky Namanera, must be a total ignoramus of piano classical music. A concert pianist will NEVER use a score to play a concert. If by any reason he would ever need to do anything close to that, he would have someone to turn the pages. The piano would NEVER be in the back of the orchestra, even if elevated. The pianist would NEVER exit the stage until the piece is complete. The audience do not clap between movements. The conductor should've started speaking before the applause. The conductor of a classical orchestra will make absolutely certain he would know how to pronounce Bösendorfer correctly.

Instead of violating these traditions, the movie could've used them. For example the impossibility of leaving the stage. The proximity of the pianist to the other people. They could've had a whole audience captured instead of just the pianist.

This movie was done for people who have no clue about classical music. Shame.

Not an Elvis fan, but...
26 November 2011
I watched this movie because I was curious about Elvis in movies. I didn't expect much, but I was happily surprised. So, when I came to look for more information about it, I was even more surprised this movie has such a low rating here. The story is very good, controversial even in many ways. It has no boring moments, the drama is constant. The acting is good for the time. The music is also appropriate for the setting, both Elvis's songs and the score by Lionel Newman is also very effective and good for the time when it was done. This might be a problem for many, the time. Judging a movie like this by today's standards is doing it a great injustice. I've seen lots of old movies that don't hold the attention as much as this. Even the acting of Elvis, being this his first movie, and him being a singer not an actor, was quite convincing. I've see lots of actors not pull the jealous rage the way he does.
