Nena: Besser gehts nicht (2013 Music Video)
9/10
Great video from a 1980's icon
2 January 2014
When I first heard 99 Red Balloons in the early 1980's I fell in love with Nena. I bought the album as well as the follow up English album and their German album. When the second English album did not chart I did not hear much about Nena until recently seeing her on YouTube. She is still very talented. I only wish they played her songs in the United States. She could have easily topped Madonna and certainly Lady Gaga of today.

This vides Besser gehts nicht just shows how talented she still is. Why America did not accept her is beyond me.

Go to Youtube and look up her videos. She is still great.

Cute Kitty show
15 August 2012
This is a show I do not remember when I was young. Actually the show came out the year after I graduated high school and at that time I did not watch Saturday morning programs.

This show is on KTV every night at 7:00 pm without the commercials. I really enjoy the live action sequences. Having had cats all my life, I root for Waldo and Felicia and their friends Sparrow and Pronto. I have never seen cats be friends with birds and rabbits.

The animated sequences are not up to the live-action parts. But I must remember the show was for children not adults. I guess these jokes are to appeal to the adults who may be watching.

Still the live action sequences are very good, especially when Waldo gets the best of Tyrone the bull dog.

Remember the show is on KTV every night at 7:00 p.m. Tune in and form your own opinion.

Earthquake (1974)
6/10
Typical 1070's disaster but with a loud twist
4 July 2012
This is a typical 1970's disaster movie. When you see Charlston Heston as the lead, this is a dead give away.

The film probably will not hold up today very well with the computer generated effects so many people are use to. But for the 1970's the gimmick Sensurround (hope it is spell correctly) was new and everyone was interested in seeing it. It even won an Oscar for sound. Unfortunately Sensurround did not last. Only two more films and one TV film had it. Midway was so-so but Roller-coaster used Sensurround the best of the three movies Back to Earthquake, the film, is enjoyable to sit and watch. For me it brings on nostalgia for an earlier time. I love seeing the old outfits that people were wearing. They would be a fashion violation today.

One last thing, people have commented on Lorne Green only being 7 years older than Ava Gardner. I have no problem with this seeing how so many times women are about the same age as the men playing their sons. Think Angela Lansbury and Lawrence Harvey in Manchurian Candidate.

Overall the movie is fun to watch but like a previous reviewer said, see the original theatrical not the TV-infused version

The Avengers: The House That Jack Built (1966)
Season 4, Episode 23
10/10
A show not to be missed from the 1960s
13 June 2012
The House That Jack Built is one of the best episodes from any series. You have to have a Avengers background to understand this show.

Emma comes to Steed's home to tell him she cannot have lunch with him because she inherited a house from an uncle she never knew. She places the key to the estate on photo paper Steed has sitting out. He is developing some holiday snaps. Anyway Emma leaves Steed's apartment and travels to her legacy.

Once there, Emma notices that strange things are happening. She enters a room and when she opens the door she is at a totally different area of the house. For several minutes, she comes to a big machine with a pulsing light.

Later she finds the nucleus of the house and learns the truth about the legacy.

I will not give away the ending but I do recommend everyone to view this episode.

Petticoat Junction: Kate's Bachelor Butter (1964)
Season 2, Episode 10

Fruit preserves shuts down Hooterville
11 June 2012
This was definitely a time when the most simple things could be made into an episode. The story here is about an annual event where Kate makes a special preserve called Batchelor Butter. The whole town shuts down until she is finished.

When the president of a food company is caught up in the frenzy he offers to take Kate to his headquarters for her to make her product and they could write down the recipe. Unfortunately Kate does not use conventional measuring devices or usual timing for the Batchelor Butter.

After having all her equipment sent to the company (includingt Uncle Joe, Sam, Floyd and Charlie) to rock outside the kitchen, she does not make the product as well as at home.

This is a very good episode. Much better than anything out today.

Keeping Up Appearances: Angel Gabriel Blue (1994)
Season 4, Episode 9
10/10
A very funny expanded episode
2 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This is an expanded episode of the series. The fifteen extra minutes gives the show time to really reach a funny climax.

Hyacinth want new counter-tops for her kitchen "Angel Gabriel Blue" and calls the Vicar to confirm that that is "Angel Gabriel Blue." Upon arriving at the store, Hyacinth finds the color is no longer available but insists that the storekeeper find some. He does and then Hyacinth puts all different messes on the table top to see if she can clean it up. This drives the shopkeeper crazy.

Later Richard comes home with athletes' foot. Hyacinth cannot stand that and tells everyone it is gout.

Later still, Hyacinth and Richard go visit Daisy and Onslow and find the shopkeeper with Rose. And Daisy has the Angel Gabriel Blue counter top which makes Hyacinth not want it any more.

Hilarious episode.
