As Above, So Below (2014)
Good film but I have one seriously stupid issue that cost it a star
Yeah, all good except one thing that is not really a spoiler.
When George is translating some of the ancient text, it rhymes in English. How could the ancient writers write something that would rhyme when translated into a language that didn't exist at the time?
How absurd. Otherwise enjoyable.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Total rubbish
So many idiotic inconsistencies but I won't waste my time listing them.
SPOILERS:
Headline says "It's sound", so you'd think they would realise that's how to beat the stupid monsters earlier on.
How come nobody makes any noise when walking and running?
Seriously, are people who got this an 8 rating idiots?
NOKAS (2010)
Yawn...
I like watching bank robbery films and there are a lot of good ones out there, Charley Varrick and Dog Day Afternoon being two of the absolute best, so I was looking forward to this. But it has to be right at the other end of the scale. Somehow, the film makers have managed to pull off the near impossible, by making the biggest heist in Norwegian history boring. I can't think of a single interesting thing to say about this film. The perpetual on-screen captions telling us things like "five minutes earlier" add annoying to the formula. It's also completely devoid of humour.
***SPOILERS***
Questions I'd like to ask Norwegians; are the police really that bumbling and disorganised? How can the town's whole police force be blocked in their station by a burning lorry? It just seems ridiculous. A question for the robbers; why did you ever think the glass would break so easily? The stupidity and lack of depth in the characters ruins any attempts to be realistic. A complete waste of time.
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
proof, if proof be need be
that the age of super is over.
****SPOILERS+++++
if you thought "super"man dying in superman returns was lame, embarrassing, puke-provoking and just plain stupid, then don't bother with this chunk of crap. it's actually not even a piece, it's more like a dribble stain on the back of a scabby dog's leg.
in typically American fashion, it has reduced the web-wielding wonder to a super hero who needs crane operators to help him save the day. yeah, crane operators. crane operators. crane half-a-brain operators who work five bucks an hour, go home and beat the wife and kids on holidays. those people - sorry if you or any of your relatives are one of them. but anyway, how super is that? not very super at all. in fact, it made the Toby MacGyver films look like they deserved Palme Dors. what is it with American film makers trying to make super heroes not so super after all? they invented them in the first place. why don't they like them any more? actually, i believe it's more a political thing, in line with that idiot Obama's theory that everyone is the same. well i'm sorry, but they're not. you can't fix stupid. it's unfix-able.
this was even worse than Thor, which i thought was one of the worst films ever - doubly so since Kenneth Brannigan directed it. or maybe because of...i'm not sure. but it was immensely crap. no doubt stupid people will love this version of spider-man. but who cares what they think?
