Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)
Makes me question why I like the previous ones.
"obnoxious, insulting to their intelligence, far to long, awfully written, stupidly loud movies with awful character design and messy confusing action sequences where you can't tell what's going on" Is what most critics say about the first three Transformers movies. I love the first three Transformers movies and highly disagree with them. Funnily enough those words are exactly how I would describe Transformers 4. I rewatched the first three after seeing the fourth one just to double check that I actually did like them and I do, I think they are glorious stupid fun. This movie was to stupid, to loud, to long, to insulting, to nonsensical, to confusing, to patronizing for even a jar-head like me who likes these bloody movies.
RoboCop (2014)
A commendable effort at a reboot of one of the best films ever made.
With the original RoboCop being the only film I've ever seen that I would genuinely say is perfect, I was very hesitant in terms of this reboot. I was worried about the PG-13 rating, the casting, the plot, essentially everything you could be worried about. I'm glad to say that this reboot is an entertaining film in it's own right. This is definitely a reboot, not a remake, while a fair amount of concepts and plot points are reminiscent of the original this is it's own film that takes a completely different approach to the premise of RoboCop. I personally am glad they did not go down the Total Recall route of trying to be a remake but ending up a complete shell of the original with nothing new to bring to the table. The decision to take RoboCop down a different path means that you are able to see him in ways you had never really considered, which I enjoyed a large amount. While I certainly don't think people will be watching it thirty years down the line as we do with the original, it's a good time for both the hard core RoboCop fan and the complete newcomer (who absolutely needs to watch the original).
Suzumiya Haruhi no shôshitsu (2010)
An excellent movie. For those who have seen the show that is.
I love this movie to death. I started watching the anime at the beginning of 2012 once I saw the first episode online then proceeded to purchase Season One, Two and the movie. While I do love the show, it all just feels like a prologue to this movie. It all flows perfectly and really is a thank you to the fans.
I am saying this because for those who have not seen the show, I can imagine that this movie would be extremely confusing. It constantly references events from the show and interweaves certain aspects of the plot around it. This movie can still be enjoyed by people who have not seen the show but many things will be missed or misunderstood. This movie is not a stand alone piece of content. It is something that needs context to be enjoyed and that context is acquired from the show.
In short, watch both seasons of the show before watching this movie and you will discover one of the greatest movies ever made.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
What an incoherent pile of crap
George Lucas failed at every point of film making with this movie. This movie has no narrative coherence, or foundations. The basic foundations for a movie are simply not present here, there is no main character, no interesting characters and most of all, an incoherent plot. If you actually try to pay attention to anything said in this movie you will notice that it makes absolutely makes no sense at all. Every sentence of dialog contradicts what was said before it and for a movie which is made for kids, it is seriously boring. George Lucas seems to think that special effects are more important than plot and characters and while the special effects may look good, they drain all the life out of the movie. He tries to make locations which look vast and open but the actors are obviously on a very narrow platform. This whole movie seems to be about cramming as much crap on the screen as possible. George Lucas, please, please stop re-releasing this crap.
