The Menu (2022)
Brilliant and Original... True Thriller... Bravo!
Pure entertainment. You can not look the way. Gripping and haunting.
Why does it need to be a projection on the state of film making or a satire about rich people. Why this movie is not a simple thrilling cheeseburger with a side of fries?
The snobbery and pretentious attitudes are a plenty. Yet this is a good movie, a movie that you enjoy and feel satisfied with the beauty of a simple piece of work done right.
Movies are supposed to make us feel something while being entertaining, this one does not disappoint in the least, time well spent, thoroughly fulfilling, excellent evening.
My sincere complements to the chef. Bravo!
Mass (2021)
12 Angry Men meets We need to talk about Kevin
Everyone mourned 10, we mourned 11.
What a gut wrenching experience. The movies puts you in an emotional vice that keeps getting tighter as the movie progresses. Cathartic does not even begin to describe this.
These actors rendered a sublime performance, all four, I do not remember of of their other roles and perhaps this immersed me further into the experience. I was not watching a movie, I was in this room, I was not aware of my surroundings, it was almost a weird sensation when the movie ended and we started looking at each other in disbelieve.
The five stages of grief model postulates that those experiencing grief go through a series of five emotions: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. You can witness each one of these stages in that room, palpable, visceral, tangible, haunting and gripping
No words can describe the loss of a child as experienced by his parents, and losing your child in this manner can take away your sanity, can render you hopeless, faithless and in a void.
Not sure that I want to talk about who deserves what award here, but this movie should not be in the category of entertainment, this should be in a category by itself.
Still in awe of what did I just witnessed here, still trying to comprehend, not sure I can see this again, I am afraid.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Funny and clever
Nothing in this movie that you would not hear on any opening monologue for the usual suspects, Colbert, Fallon Kimmel, Noah... However this movie is a blast... I was laughing out loud multiple times... The pace of the story telling is well calibrated, the absurdity of the plot is scary real... Throughly enjoyable experience... Please don't listen to the critics, this is a very funny movie.
This movie is not about the actors, given all the A+ listers here, the writing is the real protagonist here.
One Night in Miami... (2020)
Win or Lose... This film is a already a winner
The depth of character needed to accurately portray these four cultural icons is way beyond what any director can put together. The socioeconomic and racial factors that shaped the world that produced these four iconoclasts is much deeper than any script can do justice. Nonetheless, just making this movie, just saying these names, just paying tribute to these legends is a triumph in itself. I enjoyed every minute of this movie for its subject matter independent of anything else. Thanks for Regina King for making this movie. Thanks Malcolm X, Mohamed Ali, Sam Cooke, Jim Brown for enriching the world that we live in.
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
So glad that the critics do not make movies...
Rambo and Rocky are the movies I grew up with. These are the action movies. To get a chance to see one more Stallone action flick is a treat. Movies are entertainment, they illicit emotions and stir memories. Watching Rambo, the ultimate cowboy taking one more ride into the sunset feels good. This movie is for fans of John Rambo and as such it is nostalgia at its best. Enjoy!
Please ignore the critics.
Hope Springs (2012)
Great acting, excellent dialog
The plot seemed simple enough, a marriage in trouble, but when you have Streep and Jones you expect a treat and the did not disappoint at all. The scenes where they are sitting with the the therapist you can cut the tension with a knife. You expect Streep to be brilliant and she is, but Jones more than hold his own. It is difficult to play a man who is unable to be vulnerable and he truly excelled.
Of course as with every cinematic experience depends on your state of mind and your demographic. The couple sitting in front of me were elderly and mid way through the movie the lady leaned over and put her head on her partner's shoulder and stayed like that through the rest of the movie. This movie does that to you, it makes you appreciate your partner more, you can almost thank them for putting up with our own shortcomings.
This is a real movie for real people ... Enjoy!
