Doctor Who: The Time of the Doctor (2013)
Tired, Unimaginative and Boring
*** This review may contain spoilers *** I have likely seen every episode available, so the Doctor is not new for me. Having said that, I can now add nothing new in this episode either, save for a new Doctor. I wonder, will we get a new showrunner? It was as though the BBC said, "Sorry Mr. Moffat, your budget has been slashed." The result, well the same old creatures, trotted out for everyone to see. My God, can't we have something new? So the episode focused on drama and not action and excitement. Okay, that is a trend in TV today. However, Moffat fails at this too, with a very boring, difficult to follow storyline. The Daleks are back, sort of. Well, they are old news... and boring. I am so annoyed, I am having difficulty focusing.
I would never say "Don't bother," when it comes to a Who episode, but this time I have to.
Don't waste your time. Let's see what happens next time.
Living Dolls: The Making of a Child Beauty Queen (2001)
Great Docu on a sad subject
This was a great piece, I would rank it in the "must see" category. Having said that, I was disturbed by the pressure put on the kids to perform, and act. I was also disturbed by the parents and their attitudes toward the whole thing. I was convinced when they mentioned the zero to eighteen-months category - of pageant participants. Imagine a one-year-old beauty pageant contestant? Yuck.
Another aspect of the story, was the fathers (gay or not?) who had a sort of racket going. They brought their daughters who usually won. When others saw how well they performed, they contacted these guys who for a small ;-) fee, would coach future participants.
Anyway, a sadly entertaining piece. Gotta see it.

The Red Badge of Courage (1951)
Deserves more credit
Deserves more credit than it currently receives. The directing alone is awesome, with the number of unique and different shots that Huston came up with really takes this Pic away from the norm.
Some of the realism in the portrayals that would be lost on some American viewers include the scene where the General talks to the troops before the battle, asking them what they are going to eat for dinner. He goes from group to group asking the same questions - why? Remember (duh), no radios, no public address system. Commanders had to spread their message by repeating it over and over - inspiring a different group each time.
A very enjoyable 69 minutes. Sad that the studio had to meddle with the original cut (what else is new?).
