Amalgama (2020)
A darkly hilarious disjointed sequel to 'Y Tu Mama Tambien'
Watch 'Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN' and wait for the reference. There is a scene in that film during the road trip where they're passing through a military checkpoint and on the radio there is an ad for a dentist who can fix bad teeth using 'Amalgama', Also in that film, Luisa, the attractive Spanish woman is a dentist. I'm not sure what the deeper connection is regarding dentistry I would love to find out.
The beach they go to in 'Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN' is 'Boca del Cielo' and the beach they travel to in 'AMALGAMA' is 'Isla Cielo'.
The Cuaron brothers are bizarrely genius film makers and I love their dark humor and the way they celebrate Mexican culture but also make fun of its hypocrisy and idiosyncrasies.
Their photography is unique because they regularly take shots with multiple characters in the frame but also highlight beautiful scenery. So they rarely use close or tight shots. This is the case with both films.
Also if you haven't seen 'Rudo y Cursi' you need to..it is the funniest Mexican film that exists to my knowledge.
Jack Ryan (2018)
The writing is so terrible
I got up to episode 6 and thats about as much as I can stand. I gave six stars out of respect for the actors. From the very first episode the plotline is so shamefully inaccurate that I wanted to turn it off right away but I gave it a chance. The action sequences are just horrible, full of lines like " we gotta get out of here". Actual quote from Episode 6.
Venezuelan President: "Do you know anything about polo"
Wendell Pierce: "I know Ralph Lauren makes a hell of a shirt".
Who greenlight this screenplay seriously!!!????
White Tide: The Legend of Culebra (2018)
Rage!!!
Tune in the last 10 minutes and watch the snitch talk about how Rodney should've been accountable for his actions- dude you got arrested and you snitched!!!
Vice (2018)
Adam McKay is Ken Burns on Weed
Christian Bale might be the GOAT. Sam Rockwell is incredible as always.
Triple Frontier (2019)
I found the worst line in the entire movie
Start it about 57:15 and you'll see a real gem. The script is atrocious but this line just really stands out as extra horrible. Oscar Isaac has just shot the top bad guy and Pedro Pascal comes in the room and says 'What are we shooting at in here?' Just fantastic writing.
