Mother! (2017)
9/10
Masterpiece from Aronofsky 10/10
23 September 2017
Let's start saying that this "review" is not for the people, it's for the respect that this cleaver living film deserves, and i want to be clear that i know that my own perception is not going to give any meaning (or take it) to this film, it is already what it is.

Reading parts of some reviews in here, i could notice that so many people dislikes this film, and i didn't know why; Those reviews even make me doubt a little about the film and his creator (shame on you), but the film is perfect., for moments reminds me to Tarkovsky, von Trier, but its way too different, in a good way.

And after seeing the film, i know the "why" (people dislikes the film)… its to much, to big, and doesn't slow down., i Will NOT spoil anything, just going to put some basics clear., Aronofsky as other talented minds in the film industry has created a path that we can follow, but when its about to describe some characteristic style or his own personal mark in films, the thing is clear, he changes through his films, he develops and increases the complexity of the plot and characters.

So "Mother!" (and with the possibility that i am overexcited about what i just saw) i can say that Aronofsky, as always, has crated something that breakes any mold, any rules or paradigms, and goes beyond of expectations and limits of his own films… Mother! Is AMAZING, it's Greate, convoluted, with so many layers, Life, death, nature, humankind, love, god, end of times? All this in a metaphoric visual and breathing whole, a glimpse of history and existence.

The main problem with this film (becaus it exist) is the next: people… the same film establishes this as a concept in the narrative and plot, people (you) that lives without knowing nothing, and I'm not going to apologize if someone or somehow this people feels offended, (you started) because they are disrespecting something bigger than them, something that Will even live longer tan them, and something that they Will never be able to understand. Some people doesn't appreciate art (i don't like that Word either), but this film is not that (only) it's smartness, intelligence, complexity. But if you are different, and if you are just worried that your great director of always, perhaps, missed the target with this film, FEAR NOT, just go and watch it… just remember Aronofsky made it bigger and deeper this time, so watch for the symbolism's, metaphors, everything hides a piece of this puzzle. And remember, a film (proper film) is not made for the audiences, it's made to search and find, to develop and visualize, to give life to an idea, to create a philosophy, and a view from a different unique perspective, and this film is not the exception, it's not made for you, and me, so, it's not made to confuse you, or trick you, not the hidden things, not the unusual way to deliver the message, not the symbolism or metaphor, those things., exist as a vessel, and in this case, the only vessel that could deliver this complexity, this bigger reasoning. everything in this film exist as a piece in a clockwork that makes function the entire concept correctly, a masterfully crafted and tridimensional vessel of thinking., ideas, visual, sound … all three together., there is no way to some one could explain to any one, what this movie is about, because all the necessary things to explain that, are already in the movie, any other interpretation, video explanatory (youtube) will be incomplete and for so, wrong (and in the case that the explanation is were correct, to hear the words of some one else's it is not to understand).

Its a film of 2 hours that tries and achieves on joining together so many things, that if Aronofsky would like to explain it commonly, it Will became in the longest film ever, the density of the plot it's necessary, it's like a compressed digital file, is a substance, a concentrate, an essence. And i know that not to many % Will be glad with this film/way of thinking, not even my "reviw", and that's OK, because the film is not made for the bunch but for the few., and becomes a bitter-sweet sensation, for one side i Will like to see this amazing movie to be recognized for what it is, but at the same time when its not recognized, as sad as it can be, i can appreciate that something this unique do not fall in the minds of ignorant ones, and that compensates just a bit.

For me it's a solid 9, and that's because more tan sure i missed something (even when i do hate give an empty number at something this great), but i Will give a 10 just to put some balance, i'm not trying to be objective in my rate with that 10/10, not when most of the rates are so wrong)

PS. A similar thing happened with NOAH, another amazing film, so please, do not hate what its above your capabilities, learn to embrace your flaws and do something about it. forgive the misspellings, English is not my native.

Thanks IMDb, thank you so much Darren Aronofsky.

So many different Opinions of "302"
25 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
A solid 8 movie, just giving a 9 for make some balance in the reviews.

There are so many low ratings "reviews" of this movie, complaining about "lack" of novelty or historical accuracy. About that I'll like to say… your life has lack of novelty!. No, really those both things are in a very good balance in all the movie, Novel enough to cause uncertainty, but not so much as to be a disaster historically speaking.

I Know that the movie it's a good movie, and I'm not saying I like or love or hate the movie, it's just a good movie. Still it has some big issues, like 3 big issues. The biggest 1st. problem of this movie and the fact of why the dislikes of a lot of people it's the time or was the time. It's been so long since the first 300 and that create a feel that this first movie was unique then they come and announce a pre-sequel and the feeling changes because you expect something as great as the first time, or at least as you remember how the movie make you feel back then. The 2nd. Big issue with the movie is the name, you have to name it "300 Rise of an Empire", now you know it's a sequel or some of the first 300, perhaps if you call the movie like in some moment was rumored "Battle for Artemisia" without the famous numeric name. And the 3rd. problem of this, as in any movie, it's that now every single one has the opportunity to manifest their own confusion and ignorance throw the letters of the key until reach a place like this (IMDB), for some reasons all that people believes that his opinion its important just because, but if we get realistic, not everyone its capable to do a objective review, just for the simple reason they do not know themselves. (i can't do a complete or proper review because my native its not English)

ABOUT THE MOVIE, if you know about history, the first thing you should always remember it's that history it's never going to be 100% accurate, and with the pass of time the story will always change until the real facts gets lost. So as any movie based on real events, or historical moments, or actual facts… O wait 300 "2" never said to be based on historical events, it's more like inspired, and its actually accurate enough to the historical facts, with that the point of view in the movie is not impossible to believe. I've been reading/watching (on the past), so many books/documentaries about various historical big moments, and if you want to get as close as the real story was, there are so many places for you to search, do not try to judge the accuracy on the historical story of a movie, which one it's not his goal.

spoiler - If there was a scene that i would never understand the "why to do that" its the arrival of Queen Gorgo near the end of the movie, and all that involves this particular scene of her "fighting". - spoiler-END

Resumed in some points 300 "2" was: - A good action movie -Really near to the real story (historical) - Not to real enough that you think you're watching a documentary - Takes the historical blanks to fill them with a honor, liberty, drama plot, and sex, and blooooddd scenes. - Good actors/ actresses (Eva Green) -Good FX CGI sequences. -A sequel-prequel-sequel as it should be. - An opportunity to remember how good the character of Leonidas (and his 300) was - A living reminder that the first movie was so long ago that you feel old and full of regret, and you put a low rating because of it (Among other things). - My English is far from good (really far).

Seeing but you don't see...
2 July 2014
The Movie could be a solid 8 to 8.5 or even 9 but not less, it's not if i like the movie or not, it's about if the movie its a good film, and absolutely it is.

Don't take it wrong, but there is a lot of people that are seeing but they don't see. First: The movie its all the opposite to slow, its a smart and deep film, in which every scene that seems to be slow or pointless is because its charged with a lot of hidden and implicit information, of course the movie do not stop to explain anything of this, and if you are not watching carefully you could miss it.

Second: I was lucky to have the chance of read the book like a 11 years ago, and I'm pretty sure that if i hadn't done it i would be as confused as many of the people that saw this movie, The book goes from existence to social behavior, political conflicts and so many others... being a book its a fully view of the plot implicit as explicit that will drive you across the story without leaving space to doubt. The book for me was a little bit serious in the storytelling with more than many details about the plot characters and places, kind of a easy reading., but if there is reason of why the movie is so good, its because it feels like a extract, a dense or solid summary of the book, and this leaves you with a reinterpretation more than an adaptation of it. Add the great use of the camera, the clean aesthetic treatment, amazing background music, and all the simple and natural acting.

The movie its not simple even if you tough it was obvious, its easy to believe that you saw everything and think that you understand it, but there is a lot happening in every minute of the film.

Its a film that appears to be slow but it isn't you blink and you miss something, and reminds me to another heavy, deeper and slow-fast film, "ENEMY (2013)" also a reinvention of a book: the Jose Saramago's novel (El Hombre Duplicado).

(forgive my English, i know its not good)

Gravity (2013)

As amazing as it's possible
27 October 2013
If you still don't watch it and if you are still on time, go to the theaters right now., this is a rare opportunity to experience an a cinematographic marvel. In all the technological aspects for the making of this movie there was a huge creative processes, otherwise wouldn't be possible bring to life this astonishing film, not only visually but in every way that a "simple movie" can do.

Alfonso Cuaron writing and directing in his best, some times or the most of the times a great movie (like this) when seems easy and correct is harder to create, a creative mind needs to start in blank and think in all that little pieces that will complete the big masterpiece, so at the end you can say "it looks as it suppose to do", it looks REAL.

The story and plot is a nonstop of suspense & drama, which doesn't need to go so far in time or space, all this happens in the dark void of our present with the beautiful background of the earth, and all the philosophical thoughts of being alone, detached of all things, this performed flawless by his 2 talented protagonists: George Clooney and the hot and beautiful Sandra Bullock.

Children of Men was my favorite Cuarón's work but Gravity goes beyond, i just hope to see Alfonso Cuarón more into Sci-Fi movies like this 2.

It seems limited just have a rate from 1 to 10, and if i don't put 10 to this movie i would have to move down almost all the other movies on my rate list.

Enjoyable from the beginning to the end
3 October 2013
No need to add much, "coastdaze" is right in his whole review, its a regular to long movie, but happens in a very entertaining way, so you forget about the 2 hours & 20 mins. It haves it all, a not forced and very fun comedy (most of all coming from Johnny Depp & "Spirit Horse"), a great action sequences that develops in a very unexpected and comic way, suspense, and a big background of drama as accurate, that almost its a "based on real events" story., great script, plot, direction, and actings.

Also it's good to see that chemistry that Gore Verbinski & Mr. Depp brigs to the screen, plus the secondary but charismatic part of Helena Bonham Carter.

And, if you see a review with a rate of 7 or less, it has to be a wrong review and you should skip it, 'cause this is a 8 or 9 over 10 movie.

Masters of Sex (2013–2016)
8/10
8 over 10
27 September 2013
There's not much to review to this series, the background story its not new but very interesting, kind of unknown and accurate about the research of sexology by the gynecologist William Howell Masters, i have the chance to read 1 of his books long time ago in the school "Human Sexual Response" its good to learn about his work in this very different and entertaining way.

It is not a series for everyone as you already know the whole plot is about sex, and there's is a good quantity of nudity on the show.

In the start you can see that is really well made in all the technical and artistic aspect, and performed in the best way by all the actors, starting with the 2 best: Michael Sheen & Lizzy Caplan.

And thats it, is just the beginning of this promising series, as usual (here on IMDb) its not easy for me just put a number at the quality and effort of the peoples work specially with this one, cause perhaps it is too early to make a review, but i will rate it with 8 over 10.

If you have the time and age, you definitely should watch it.

Game of Thrones (2011–2019)

One of the most stunning... or the most?
23 September 2013
Perhaps I'm not being as objective as i could, even then this amazing series is one of the most stunning TV shows, don't know in the future, but right now its possible and probably the best TV series.

GOT haven't point of comparison with other series like breaking bad, homeland, mad men, I'm sorry for those who like this series but they just not as good as GOT, don't matter what the EMMY's says, i like to believe that we already know how the EMMY's usually works for the benefit of just a few. talking about braking bad, or mad men that i also enjoy, are a really good TV shows but also are more popular, made with the objective of make more people to like it without being too risky or controversial, or mature, I know that GOT its some times harder to watch (for some people) because this series wasn't made for everyone, was made to be the best show, something like no other TV show, epic, savage, crude, and surprisingly real in the human behavior, of course attached to a fantasy story with dragons, magic, epic battles, and so many secrets to discover.

I literally don't have all the correct adjectives or words to describe it (english is not my native language) and even if i loose some objectivity rating this a 10 over 10, the great work that all the people involved put in this series deserves no less than a 9 rate in a movie/series rater website, considering that if u give it a 9 that will mean that there is no other series capable to have the same rate.

In all aspect, from technical, sound, video, editing, mixing, direction, cast, actresses and actors, story, plot, script... in every single aspect it's a flawless piece of work.

Just want to say Thanks! to George R. R. Martin for write this great story., and to Emilia Clarke just thank you for existing and being part of GOT.

Thank you to all of you in Game of Thrones.

Not a good series at all
23 September 2013
There's not just a single season for why this series could have a higher than 4 over 10 rating, well perhaps the only 1 reason could be that u just never saw a really good series.

Starting with the story and plot that develops so predictable and immature, without any real drama or suspense, and a regular to fake action sequences. The script is full of clichés & weak lines that complement the bad acting from almost all the "actors" starting with the worst one: Stephen Amell the protagonist. If that's not enough, the FX, lighting, song choices, even the wardrobe and interiors design looks and hears cheap, without any kind of quality in the whole thing.

Not a bad movie, not a good one either
22 September 2013
The movie deliver what promises, it's a regular entertaining action movie, the plot is believable as possible, they don't explain too much about how the invasion of north-Korea to the states happened so its not about of how possible or by what means it could happen, the movie focuses on what happens after the invasion, from the point of view of a group of teenagers.

Besides of being forgettable, there's just 1 big problem whit this movie, and is the casting, in particular Josh Peck, just seems that the part was too much for josh, he "performs" without any kind of acting skills, and looks fake all the time., he's a really bad choose for a leading role.

So i'll rate this movie with 5 or 6 over 10, not more and not less.

A Portrait of Emptiness (with some good acting)
6 September 2013
I have to agree with some other users, and this is not about opinions or what kind of movies do i like.

For understand what's wrong with this movie, we need to separate the "story" from all the rest. 1st. the "story" it's just a portrait of emptiness of how a group of rich ignorant teens desperately needs to feel accepted, the need of believe that they are cool, popular or else., following famous rich shallow people on social networks to learn about their lives with the goal of not only steal them, butt to be like them, because they don't know who or what they are. This kind of non-cultural behavior it's seen every day on every part of the world, and the very worst of all this 90 minutes nonsense it's that IT IS A REAL STORY!!.

2nd. The rest? ...the acting isn't bad at all, because they perform as they supposed to, as a stupid and confused rich kids, being Emma Watson the best in her role and the only reason of why i saw the entire movie. Sofia Coppola directing not on her best moment, the pointless of the plot gets too much repetitive, slow and boring.

The only way this could be a "good" or not a bad movie is if you hate it, and take all that emptiness and lacks as the whole point of why this was made.

(I hope I have been clear, and forgive my English, it is not my native language)
