Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011)
Spectacular! entertainment and a Splendid! sequel.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is a worthy sequel and has everything that the original did and then some more, the high production quality and great cgi effects come together for a high caliber piece of entertainment. The chemistry between Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law is the backbone of the franchise.
Guy Ritchie has crafted a franchise that is a shining example of what a big-budget studio movie should look like and all the ingredients it should have. Above all Guy Ritchie has shown how to reboot a old legend, a hero, for the new generation. If you want to see the Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes in its purest form then watch the 1984 series of Jeremy Brett but the Guy Ritchie Sherlock is a different version, an update for the present generation.
Glorious 39 (2009)
A Gloriously Old-school Conspiracy Thriller, Taut and Gripping
Glorious 39 is an engaging atmospheric conspiracy thriller. The story unfolds in a very involving manner keeping the suspense intact until the very last frame. Tension is really well maintained through out the movie, as soon as the story kicks and the paranoia sets in it just increases and deepens with each frame until the final credit rolls.
As the lead Romola Garai gives this gripping piece of work its intensity. She never hits a false note and is the key reason because of which the paranoia and tension are so incredibly palpable.Glorious 39 is period piece and a engaging conspiracy thriller, that is narrated in a old-school manner of film-making were the script complements the visuals and the performances lends in to make the narration even more engaging.
Contraband (2012)
A solid entertaining thriller, intense and suspenseful
Contraband is an engaging crime-thriller, the strong cast delivers intense performances, Mark Wahlberg was in full control and was as intense in action scenes as he was in the dramatic ones, Giovanni ribisi is a delight to watch and steals every scene he is in, Ben Foster as always gives a incredible performance, even though Kate Beckinsale gives a strong performance she is wasted, considering that it is not a very key role and could have been done by someone else.
As far as the direction goes Baltasar has executed the movie very well. Intense performances by a strong cast and a good execution overcomes a weak and predictable script.Even though it is predictable and forgettable by the numbers thriller, It never forces or over-do it self it earns it's intensity.
This is a very well narrated movie in which the tension is kept high and is very palpable, there is not a scene that drags, hence resulting in a strong and entertaining thriller.
