Bill Burr: Live at Red Rocks (2022 TV Special)
10/10
Hi delivered...
18 July 2022
After "Bill Burr Presents: Friends Who Kill" I was a little bit frustrated as it wasn't funny to the most part.

But here Bill Burr fully delivered again.

Great program with everything in it you'd like to hear from this bold redheaded mf... ;)

A lost chance...
17 December 2020
Don't get me wrong: It's not bad. But it's just not what it could have been.

Maybe my expectations were too high. I was looking forward to a kind of Hard SiFi the like of "The Martian" and I got some kind of Space Soap.

I've never been to space. But I know as much as there is no way that astronauts would act like those guys. Reckless fools, driven by impulses and feelings.

The actors are good - no complaints there. But the story...

I pit everyone who can not understand the Viennese dialect...

A great TV-Show with great actors - every single one of them. It reminded me of Penny Dreadful, but in a very good way. Don't expect a biopic. Enjoy a well made mystical thriller. And if you can: enjoy the original version. Don't expect to understand too much if you are not a native speaker - the Viennese dialect hast some very unique terms... :)

Great show.

The story is great. The acting and the production value are great as well. And I highly appreciate the fact that they wrote a mini series with an end in mind. And there is this other part in me: Yearning for a second season. I really want to know what happend to the characters next. And then again: I like shows that have a beginning, a middle and an end. But it was so good that I would love to see more. I'm torn apart... Seriously, If you like the genre at all or if you maybe want to give it a chance: This is for you.

Science Fiction at it's best...
15 November 2019
One could make so many things wrong with this movie - especially if it would have had made by Hollywood. Yes there are some slower parts in it. But the tension is built up perfectly. I loved it. But maybe I'm a sucker for this kind of movies. I liked it even more than "Contact" or "The Arrival". It's a "simple" movie* compared to those but way more realistic. * Dear filmmakers: I mean this not in an insulting way. I'm sure you understand what I mean... :) Please make a sequel! I would love to see those guys again.

See, I'm not easy to bring to tears. Not in movies and not in real life. I never was. But every once in a while there is this movie that hits you. I liked it a lot... Nothing more to say.

Indie or not: it's a waste of time.
26 December 2018
You see: I love Indie films. I don't need the Hollywood block busters. And I understand that without a proper budget a film will not look like one. But bad actors, bad dialogs and a bad script in general will ruin any film. Furthermore as the idea is interesting. Imagin them moving like you would behind enemy lines. Barely any talking. Ever present fear of being discovered. Moving only at night, etc. Even with a smaller budget, some good advisors and good actors this could have been 70min of tension... But this?

I rarely write reviews, in this case I have too. Sorry.
7 November 2018
As an archer and a swordsman I was shivering in anticipation for this movie.

What a disappointment.
  • The swords action was poorly done, even for lower standards than mine.
  • Archery: what a waste of time. Not even the bows were authentic.
  • The plot was so boring an predictable.
  • The costumes so cheep.

Don't get me wrong: I know very well that the figure of Robin Hood may be a fictional all together but still: It's considered to live in a certain period of Englands rich history. And at least this could have been a little bit authentic.

What a waste of time.

Ah, one good thing: Some actors had a very nice English...

Could I only travel back in time...

... and unwatch this movie.

In fact it was not entirely bad made. The actors were reasonable well. The problem is, that this is not a movie, it's more like a sermon or a ad for christianity.

"Gentlemen, gentlemen hear me! Satan is not against good morals. He is opposed to Jesus Christ. A man could have good morals his entire life yet you and I know he would go to hell when he dies." - except he finds Jesus... blah, blah, blah. You may as well be a serial killer as long as you find Christ you will sit next to him in eternity.

Can someone spot the problem here...?

10 out of 10 because...
9 January 2018
  • I love the humor.
  • Well made
  • Raises philosophical questions
  • Holds up reason and logic

I'm sure one may see other things in it, but here are some philosophical questions we found it:
  • Is there a free will?
  • Is it ok to mutilate children in the name of religion/culture?
  • How evolve religions and what's their possible "life circle"?
  • Culture based on 100% democracy. How could this work out?
  • Is it ok to keep other beings in zoos?
  • and more...

I watched it together with my daughter (15) and my wife. We loved it and are looking forward to Season 2!

WOW. What a missed chance...
11 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The idea: good. But the realisation and the details: bad.

Look, there is a girl 97 years after the distinction. She wears nice tight fitting jeans and a spotless tank-top. Not to mention her technical equipment and a top-notch crossbow in tactical black, of course. 97 years after the event she must be 3rd or 4th generation of people without access to technology and power in general. And did I mention that she basically looks like Katniss Everdeen...?

And then there is Kronos and his brother. Two humans living on in or as AIs burdening them themselves with a human appearance and communicating via human speech. I understand that some actors can attract viewers, but come on! You could have done better, more innovative.

And yes: In 2020 there are obviously batteries able to store energy for 97 years after the last recharge. Only 2 years to go!

Verdict: Not worth the time. And be warned there is a cliffhanger at the end threatening us with a part 2...

Quite realistic...
5 October 2017
Why do I give it a 9 out of 10? There are several reasons: a) It's quite realistic. b) It's very close to what really happens (as far as the public knows today) c) It's in general well made. Why not a 10 out of 10? We know that the SAS trains with live rounds, as it was shown in the movie. But their targets wouldn't stop the projectiles. During their practicing in the bus the bullets would hit the target, go through, hit something else and from there on they would be unpredictable. No one would sit behind those targets and just watch the training. Same applies for the "house" made of wooden frames and fabric. bullets go through, nobody in the hanger would be safe.

There's no sun without shadow...
22 January 2017
...not in the life of a commando nor in the universe of TV-shows. To keep it short: Well made, good actors. In regards to the story: We will see. I have only seen the pilot so far and I think it's too soon to make a final verdict.

But I would like to address some of the reviews on this show:

  • Sex: I only remember one brief sex scene. And there wasn't even much skin involved. Guys: this is a show about humans and humans have sex - you are the product of such an event neither you like it or not. But hey, I'm from Europe and I will burn in hell for my liberal views anyway... :)

  • Scalping: Do some research. There ARE allegations in this direction. Are they true? I don't know. But obviously it's not totally invented by the writers of the show. I neither apologies their possible doings nor do I condemn them as a whole. However: Is it true, it is distasteful even if the enemy uses similar tactics in psychological warfare. Killing them should be enough and do the trick.

The only criticism I have is that the guys are shown as very impulsive and sometimes with low self control. I would assume that that's not very realistic. But what do I know...
