La Viuda Negra (2014)
Season 1 was more or less, Season 2 is a flop
Frankly, I watch La Viuda Negra and other similar series in Spanish only because they are good for learning the language.
Content wise, Season 1 was more or less - I enjoyed the developments, acting and some fantasy.
But the second season proved to be awful - the content has nothing to do with any reality whatsoever, while the fantasy has broken the ceiling. The episodes are boring and this boredom has finally outweighed my desire to improve Spanish with this series.
I quit watching in the middle of the second season. There are other series in Spanish that have a better script.
Destinos: An Introduction to Spanish (1992)
Solid educational series
The series is a strictly educational one, so whoever writes about its cinematic pluses and minuses distorts the very idea of why people, wishing to learn or improve Spanish, should watch it.
Of course, watching it today is kind of weird: the world has changed since the early 1990s and so many things seem totally obsolete and, sometimes, ridiculous, but I don't know of many other similar educational series, at least for Spanish learners, so I would recommend watching Destinos - along with reading the attached grammar and other notes on the Annenberg website, if you access the series online.
At the beginning, there is more English than Spanish, but by the end of the series it is Spanish only. Some episodes sum up the previous episodes with emphasis on new words and expressions, so you can remember them better.
I watched one or two episodes every day and found this to be the optimum way - for me - to remember new words, expressions and grammar forms.
La casa de al lado (2011)
Great for those learning Spanish
I've just finished watching all the 165 episodes and I liked the series very much.
Not even because the script was well-written and the actors played very well or because the music heightened the tension, when necessary, but also because I'm learning Spanish and this is definitely the best television series for improving your command of the language.
I highly recommend it to students and those learning Spanish on their own.
I watched it on Netflix so I had the option to activate Spanish subtitles, which helped me greatly to understand better, especially when actors spoke too fast. On several occasions, I stopped watching to check the dictionary or listen or read the subtitles once again not to miss important words - or plot details.
