Summer with Selik (1992)
A heart-warming documentary
Summary: A family spots an abandoned baby seal on a windswept islet in desperate need of rescue. They make a paddock in the shoreline, giving him a secure playground. Katrine is a scuba-diver and quickly develops a touching friendship with Selik the seal. They keep him for 3 months, and release him as soon as he has learned how to survive in the wild.
It is truly a must see for all animal friendly people everywhere. The spoken language is Norwegian, but one does not need to know the language to understand what is happening.
After this film was released, Selik managed to join a group of wild seals. And he came back to visit he's human friends from time to time.
A highly recommended documentary! 10/10
Kôkaku kidôtai: Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society (2006)
Feels like a bad TV budget flick
My first impression was that there was a huge budget cut on this one. The animation is far below the classics we are used to. It is nowhere near movies like, Ghost in the shell, Ninja scroll, Akira etc.
It is all talk. And thanks to the budget, its just images with mouths moving.
The plot is dull and outdone.
I sat through 1/3 of this movie.
I'll recommend those i remember that you should see rather than this: The three i listed above, Patlabor, Cyber city odeo, a lot of studio Ghibli's movies, Battle angel Anita & Appleseed.
Jungledyret Hugo: Fræk, flabet og fri (2007)
Not the same magic, or am i getting too old?
The animation is good, and the story is all the same. get caught, escape, caught again, escape again. I remember i loved the 1. movie. What i loved about it was the relation between Rita and Hugo. They seems to have managed to preserve that relationship the right way, but the dialog was not for someone above 6 years. Needless to say, the same goes for the humor.
and what about the language? calling a dog "Satan" and a drug addict butterfly that talks about tripps. I don't think children understands that so its a children friendly movie...it seems to have won a Oscar also.
take your kids to see it. But if you're just an old Jungle Jack(jungeldyret hugo) fan like me, stick to your good old memories.
