The Vexxer (2007)
7/10
Funny
11 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I haven't watched the first episode. So I can't say if episode II is better or worse. I guess people who know the old Edgar Wallace flicks will enjoy the film most, as there are (at least I guess so) allusions. So as I watched this film as if was something unique, I can they that even though it was quite funny, except some predictable jokes (at least there were less than in episode I, according to a comment from the magazine "stern"). The old "Wallace"-crew did a good job, but the best jokes, in my opinion, came from the cameos of Achim Menzel and Roger Willemsen. The role of Chucky was too small, this Klaus -Kinski-Parody was really great.

Not a movie of its time

Warning: Spoilers
Might contain SPOILERS

Although ordered by Goebbels, the propaganda minister, this movie is not only not a propaganda film, it is actually exactly the absolute opposite, thanks to Erich Kästner. There are two lovely scenes: When the Baron is the Turkish palace, someone, can't remember who, says that all humans are equal. We all know, but remember the time and place when this movie was filmed.

Some facts before the 2nd scene, 4 years before the German army invaded Poland and now (1943) it is still war. Münchhausen says something like: We shouldn't invade Poland, our country is big enough. (I still can't imagine how this got in the movie)

These two subversive scenes make this film so humane and special.

If you like trash, you'll love Gentle, but ...

Strongly criticised by the catholic film-service for its nudity content, it's not even worth for any professional critic to be even ignored, and it actually the nudity what it's best in this opus. As a late example of the "old-men's-jokes-with-nude-girls-films", popular in the 70s, it stars a large range of B-scale (naw, Z-scale) celebrities who act worse than a primary school's theatre group. The excessive use of late 70s slang, or what old men consider as such, ancient jokes and pseudo-obscenities (the film is rated 12 and above as it only features some nudity) can't bring any excitement. The few "sketches" are both badly written and even worse acted. But the worst of this film insulting intelligence, is the soundtrack, plastic pop as bad as possible. I have to admit, I watched the film with comments from a comedian (a real one) and the presenter, so it was possible to abide it, without the extra comment you will face 86 minutes of boredom, at least with titties. A platinum razzy.
