I'm a huge fan of this book, the movie, and the musical itself and this film was such a letdown to a huge fan like me. Why take away brilliant musical pieces and replace them with Disney-esque fluff? If you're going to do the musical, just do the musical. The story also felt very rushed and once again, the actual relationship between Shug and Celie is completely glossed over. It's 2024. Come on! They were in a relationship for years and years. Why not show it? Honestly, the whole thing just felt like fluff, like it was afraid of itself. I can understand why it didn't win any awards this award season, that's for sure.

All I could do was laugh

The dialogue is absolutely horrible and hilarious. I don't know what idiot wrote the lines for these horrible actors, but my god. Sooooo funny. So bad. The lead actress with the Dorothy Hamill haircut is insufferable.
I can't with this piece of crap. I truly can't. It's like a joke. It's like the actors are being purposely terrible and it's not even in a fun and ironic B-movie kind of way. And every action these dumb kids take is stupider than the next. I know Stephen King wants to die just knowing this film exists.
It was a for sure no finish. Too bad it took itself seriously because it was absolutely hilarious.

Okay, so first things first...I watched the original, not the dubbed version.
I was so impressed with this film. I loved how the trailer led you in the wrong direction as far as plot. I came into this thinking it was going to be one storyline when in reality it was a completely different story.
The lead actress was absolutely fantastic. I couldn't take my eyes off her. She was so raw, real, and innocent. I adored her performance. I was truly in love the entire time.
This isn't your typical slasher film. It's so much more than that. The cinematography is disturbing and beautiful. The story is unique. The acting is wonderful. I just can't praise this film enough. I loved it!

I'm confused by the "woke" reviews
30 July 2022
Why are people calling this show "woke" and insisting it's a liberal agenda? Is it cause the main character is black and married to a white man? I'm so confused.
Anyway, it's like a Lifetime movie at best. Script is horrible, but it's entertaining and a fun Friday night watch.

What a snooze fest. It gives this warning in the beginning about how extra violent this movie is. Not T all. I've seen worse things in Saw. It was so slow moving and so boring. A "horror" film trying to be artsy fartsy and it failed miserably.

I'm not even sure what I just watched, but I loved it. Amazing lead actor, amazing story, and incredibly creepy. Watching someone's descent into madness is horrifying and feels somewhat voyeuristic. This is one of the darkest/disturbing psychological films I've seen in a long time. Just be aware the last 20 minutes are very upsetting.

I absolutely LOVED this movie. It was fun, entertaining, and dark. Gracie Gillam is a delight. I wish more horror movies were like this one. Now all I want to do is find similar movies and watch them all day! Do yourself a favor and watch this-you'll have a great time.

I don't get all the hate on here...

It's a fun slasher movie. It's not supposed to be Oscar-worthy. I also don't think the main characters are unlikeable like so many on here seem to. I'm unsure as to why people aren't just accepting this for what it is? I had a great time watching it and I'm looking forward to the second installment.

Review Based on Season 2.

Amanda Peet was incredible in season 2 and the whole thing itself was excellent. So excellent, in fact, I decided to give season 1 a try. Nope. That was a dumpster fire and I bailed after 1.5 episodes. Juno Temple and the other daughter's performances were absolutely insufferable. And Connie Britton as always, was wallpaper. But DEFINITELY watch season 2.

Comfort show!
14 February 2021
I've been watching this show since I was a kid. I'm 32 now and it's one of my biggest comfort shows ever. I watch it every night when I'm trying to wind down for bed and now that I have a newborn, I watch it when I'm up with him. It's one of the best ever.

Sarah Paulson is my favorite, but this film isn't her best. I waited for months for this to come out and I'm left wondering why I was so excited. The trailer gave everything away. You knew the whole story before it even started. There was little to no character development and everything just felt like it was 0-100 with no pacing whatsoever. Also, the makeup department for Sarah's final look-the hell were you guys on when you came up with this? I actually laughed when I saw her.
It was an okay movie. One that you'd be pissed if you spent money on. Same old story, same old acting. Also, nobody knows how to act an asthma attack.

Read the Book First

Okay, so the book is absolutely incredible. Honestly, the author is so talented and you get a reprieve from all the disparity through his hilarious descriptions.
Anyway, the film. I was disappointed with the massive storylines they chose to leave out, but as far as the rest, I felt it mostly did the boom justice. I will say, Robert Pattinson was severely miscast. Being that he's associated with a tween series, he did not come across as dangerous and vile as his character truly is. His performance was pretty good, but you can't be that character and also have been in Twilight. Doesn't work.
Moral of the story, decent film...amazing book.

Neither good nor bad...
14 October 2020
...just kind of "meh." Pretty boring a lot of the time. Kind of felt like a whole series that's just a conversation you're having with someone in which he/she mires you down with details about the stupid dreams he/she had the night before and you can't escape it.
