The Northman (2022)
Shining Bright
If you have seen the tv show Vikings, you will find this film familiar in certain ways.
The visuals are stunning. The story compelling and the music and action are all that it's hyped up to be.
The acting is solid and the lore so glorious.
Nicole Kidman, Björk and Ethan Hawke really steal the show, especially Björk. She is why I went to go see this movie. Enjoy.
Run (2020)
Not Bad
While watching this movie I thought of Misery at least a couple of times and of American Horror Story.
What actually made me watch this movie was the runtime! Any longer and it would have been a disaster in my opinion.
Interesting and focused. Sarah Paulson is a catch.
Vikings: Answers in Blood (2014)
Family Affair
The previous episode was cool. I'm slowly liking this series. But just seeing Bjorn, his dad and his mom together, and his uncle fighting together was cool. Even "Uncle" floki! This episode is actually making me a fan because so many gatherings and interactions.
Love & Sex (2000)
Happy Hogan and Jean Grey!!
Such a cool movie. It has some funny moments and just cool seeing Jon Favereau and Famke Janssen together on screen, given that they do Marvel stuff in the future although not together.
Gwoemul (2006)
Not Bad at All.
Was recommended this film by a professional friend and I have to say it's a really great film.
Intriguing until the end.
Irréversible (2002)
Whew!
Man. This film is something else. As the film progresses it does get easier to watch and I thank the editing and film direction for doing what they did because if the film was left chronologically in order it would be the most depressing film to me and I would have rated it differently.
There's so much hope left for the audience to interpret at the end; props to Monica Belluci, I honestly don't know how she did this movie, which makes me believe she is a brilliant actress and an elite force.
Watch this film.
Being There (1979)
Incredible
I laughed several times and had my thinking cap on the other times. This is such a good movie. I only added it to my watchlist because it's supposedly connected to the late Stanley Kubrick.
Bak fat moh lui zyun (1993)
Original Xena?
This movie is fantastic. The music, acting, cinematography, writing and characters are all top notch.
The only thing I found annoying was some of the exposition by the narrator. I looked past that though because of what it created.
I was unaware of this until I read the trivia, but this movie, or the character of Lien, inspired Rob Tapert's Xena!!!
As I was watching I did see so many elements used in the episodes of Xena. Incredible. I cannot compare the two characters but there is no doubt Lien inspired Xena, and some of the other characters in this movie inspired characters like Alti, Ares, Callisto, etc.
Even Lien being used as a "destroyer of nations" by the Cult can be compared to Alti's hold on her and later Draco's, and Borias.
I find it stunning the revelation.
This is a must watch for fans or Kung Fu, drama, and tragedy.
The action scenes are wholly unexpected fun and gruesome. Lien's whip!!! Haha. Splits people in half.
Swinging Safari (2018)
Kylie Minogue and Friends
I am only watching this because of Kylie Minogue, Julian McMahon, and Guy Pierce. The movie being watchable (good script, nice jokes, cool acting) is icing on the cake or the cherry on top.
The Hours (2002)
Hmph
Same-Sex relationship or death? I watched the movie all the way through and it didn't do anything for me. It insists upon itself. The stunning trio of actresses is what kept me watching. The score sucks and the script is "meh". All is subjective and this is just my opinion.
Lion (2016)
I Cried.
This movie was so good. I'm an emotional person and this one had me balling. Great script and good music. Oh and excellent acting.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Different Experience Here
I enjoyed the movie as a whole. The pacing was good and the characters' motives pretty believable. I watched it twice in one day. Seeing it a second time there were two scenes that were cringe-worthy and unbelievably ridiculous: the part where Diana makes the plane invisible, and the part where Max Lord finally says "I renounce my Wish." Terrible.
Stand out was Kristen Wiig. She was amazing, and her development stunning.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Dazzling Affair
I thoroughly enjoyed this film and am saddened to see Fox leave the X-Men. Do not believe the ratings and the negative reviews because this is one of the better "First Class Films".
First of all the story is coherent, the motives and events believable while the music score and visual effects are off the charts.
It was refreshing to see the X-Men Dynamics against a dark brooding back drop of intriguing dialogue sans one-liners and comical intervention.
The action sequences gave all a chance to shine and fans of the comics and even the animated show will see all the little nods and nuggets.
Selene, Dazzler, Storm and Cyclops shined like the stars they are. Dazzler was the best surprise ever in an X-Men film. The optic blasts were epic. Magneto using his powers were so cool. Glad Mystique died early since I didn't like J Lawrence playing her. Turner played the hell out of Phoenix yet I like Famke's Darkness a tad better. Beast was cool, great. Vuk was a cool villain, and her Entourage was a good substitute for the Hellfire Club.
All in all, it's a bittersweet ending, eclipsed and snubbed by all the Avenger stuff going on.
My only complaint is that Phoenix does not shout "Phoenix" or "Dark Phoenix" like from the animated series. I hope Disney makes good on that reference in the future.
Thank you Fox for a great run. You truly did amazing.
Family Guy: Yacht Rocky (2019)
Funny Start
As a huge fan of this show, watched the whole series at least twice, this was pretty funny.
Four things I liked:
1) Donna's Scene
2) Moment Meg's Love Interest is decapitated
3) Casey Kasem Parody
4) Peter Griffin's Final Line
After I watched the entire episode, that last line from Peter made me laugh so hard, because in my mind I was wondering how they were going to get out of this one.
What I didn't enjoy:
-Cleveland and Joe's interactions
-Lois
-Brian's Exclusion
-Hardly Any Cutaway Gags
Family Guy: You Can't Handle the Booth (2019)
Sarah Paulson
Not my favorite episode, wish they had a chicken fight episode instead of this; Episode still gets a high rating for Sarah Paulson's inclusion, she's pretty funny.
Game of Thrones: The Last Watch (2019)
Ramin Djawadi?
A documentary about a full season's work, and the music composer is not featured or mentioned?
A make-up artist, food vendor, snow-maker, and extra's story were the main focus and honestly: Who the hell cared?
Vlad (the Night King Actor), and the Executive Producer's story was cool though.
But where was Ramin Djawadi explaining his cool ass score for this season?
This documentary DOES have more emotion than the GOT final season though...
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
I Shouted "YES!" A Few Times...
Story was great from the start of the episode to the end: Rising action to a beautiful, but bitter climax.
Music score was outstanding, haunting and induced anxiety in me. Ramin Djawadi re-did "Light of Seven", which I believe will be on the upcoming soundtrack.
The acting was on point.
There were several MVPs: Melisandre, Theon, "Little Bear" Mormont, Jorah Mormont, Drogon, Ayra, & Beric.
Seems like the crew really worked hard to set "the bar" higher and deliver quality material, so I am praying they get recognized by receiving an EMMY.
Bran was worging most of the episode so I wonder what else he was doing besides controlling the ravens...
Rumpelstiltskin (1995)
This Ain't No Fairytale..for sure.
Well let's start by saying that this is a B-Rated movie. No doubt. It is hardly low budget however. The semi-truck chase scene shows that it isn't as low budget as people have reviewed it to be.
The pace of story is great in the first act up until the half of the second act. After Rumpel steals a motorcycle from a biker that looks like Kris Kristofferson, it is so awful as far as character acting and story go, that everything goes down hill.
While watching, I thought to myself, the actor that plays Rumpel acts exactly like a Ferengi from the Star Trek universe. Come to find out, the actor plays Rom in DS9. Go figure...
It is very predictable, filled with one-liners, stiff acting and a played out plot.
I will praise the cringing stabbings (The female protagonist stabs Rumpel right in the dome with a kitchen knife as well as shoving a broken broom stick down his throat) the harsh use of the B-Word and the original musical score.
All in all I believe it really is an okay movie. I was checked out in the second half of the movie and was engaged in playing Candy Crush.
Oh!! And it is hilarious to hear the tag line of this movie uttered by Rumpel in the climax, "This ain't no fairytale." Wow!
The Conjuring (2013)
Surprisingly Well
I would had never gone to see this movie if it weren't for the fact of looking up its score on IMDb here. I was shocked that a horror movie got such a decently high rating. So, that's what compelled me to go see it with my girlfriend.
From the well placed scare parts to the well paced plot, I never felt bored or tired. The acting was great and the story solid. It was perhaps a bit too polished for my tastes in regards to the theme of the movie.
I loved the musical score, the lighting and also the sound effects.
I implore anyone looking for a good scare, with friends, to see this movie, with the lights off. There are also a lot of "wt*" moments that are scary and funny.
Thank you for reading my review.
