Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
I'm enjoying this show so much
Every episode. Love it. It's made me so nostalgic, I'm rewatching TOS. SNW is the closest in spirit to TOS for me. It's not afraid to explore characters and new situations and I genuinely like all the characters. I haven't felt that way about any of the ST series, not even the first. I like the way it calls back to the original series, but it's not slavishly stuck and not afraid to change with the times.
I'm seeing some bad reviews for season 2 and the most recent "musical" episode, but I found it so entertaining and fun. People forget how TOS was not afraid to be silly and have fun. Some people need to get over themselves and just enjoy it.
Time Is Up (2021)
Makes you appreciate mediocre acting
I haven't seen anything this bad in a while. The acting was really juvenile. God bless the actors, at least they were all very pretty. The story was terrible and was barely coherent. I don't know who edited it but it jumped all over. The description made it sound like some kind science fiction/ time / quantum jump movie with a romantic plot but it was just high school drama. Speaking of high school, why not put these kids in college at least?
It was bad.
2 Hearts (2020)
Ok acting but not much else
Not really a fan of the gods plan philosophy but I will allow the live life for the day one. Mostly annoyed by the timelines - Jorge is supposed to be around 20 in let's say 1960. He meets wife on panam flight at 30. Chris is shown in modern times so it looks like he died 2020 - that makes Jorge 80 when he get lung transplant? It's ridiculous. Why not show Chris in 1980 or something? The love stories were saccharine and the idea that Chris is ok for his life to be for this rich old dude to live on is pretty bad.
Blood of Zeus (2020)
Forget everything you might know about Greek mythology
I don't like the rewriting and reinventing of mythology, but . . . I'm somewhat desperate for entertainment. Not terrible if you forget what you know and just go with it. I find the animation simple, all the characters have the exact same face with varying coloration.
It's otherwise ok.
Nancy Drew (2019)
This characterization is so unpleasant
The character is so unpleasant I can hardly watch it. The rest of the group of friends is much more watchable.
The Passage (2019)
Definitely not the book
The books were beautifully written, elegiac, intense, and spellbinding. I still find myself remembering scenes and passages from the books years after reading them. This show is not that. They took the "action" and outline of the books and never read them it seems. The personality of amy is all wrong. The young actress and most of the actors are all good but really the "writers"? just left the soul of the books behind.
Lost in Space (2018)
Really a 5 to start and 8 by the end
It started a bit painfully. The characters were very unlikeable - the "science" pretty unbelievable. I was never a fan of the original so only had a basic knowledge and no nostalgia to hold me back.
The characters grew. So did the story. I ended up really liking everyone - except Smith, of course who is remarkably ruthless and manipulative. The solve a major life-ending / world-ending event every episode can get tiresome but that's the nature of these shows so can't complain too much.
Bottom line, by the end of the series I cared about what happens to these people and hope they don't make me wait too long to see them survive being "lost in space."
