A Perfect Pairing (2022)
Unrealistic and cheesy-but take it for what it is.
As a previous wine rep and then startup importer I can say that the scenes in the office with the wine company and workers ate completely unrealistic. But if you want a cheesy romcom easy watch, this isn't terrible. I did have to fast forward through a few scenes that were just over the top, like the campground singing and stereotypical girlie dancing montage-yuck! But the leads have chemistry and there is a bit of a mystery that keeps you engaged.
The Rise and Fall of LuLaRoe (2021)
LulaRoe or Socialism?
While it's very important to warn people (men AND women) of the dangers of MLM, this production almost undoes much of the progress made by the anti-MLM movement by bringing in a society-blaming angle. You're going backwards. Capitalism is not bad. Universal basic income doesn't work. This is gaslighting at best...MLMs target every living being with a pulse, not just SAHMs. Take away LulaRoe and this is just a documentary about Marxism. Skip skip skip-watch Amazon's LulaRich or many of the YouTube anti-MLM creators instead.
Something Borrowed (2011)
It's an ok mindless RomCom...
...but the over-the-top Heineken product placement is really distracting. Is this a movie or a commercial? Really annoying Heineken N. V.
LuLaRich (2021)
"Call your dad you're in a cult!"
I feel like there could be ten more seasons of this docuseries! I'm as pulled in by these stories of MLMs as I am to true crime and unsolved murder cases. The collective psychosis these women experience is so curious. (Although I'll admit the lack of healthy skepticism is super frightening😩.) Please make more!
On Becoming a God in Central Florida (2019)
A slightly dramatized version of the world of Multi-Level Marketing Companies
I love that this show brings to light the dark side of MLMs, the side no one talks about....the side where 99% of people lose money (sometimes a devastating amount) and destroy relationships with family and friends. I agree that most of the low ranks here are probably from members of MLM companies, as this is well-written, well-produced and highly entertaining. When you think things can't get wackier, they do. Kirsten Dunst is amazing. If you aren't familiar with MLMs currently in operation (Amway, Monat, Arbonne, Mary Kay, Younique, Paparazzi Jewelry, Norwex, Scout & Cellar, Isagenix, Young Living, Rodan & Fields to name a few) be aware that this isn't too far off from how these companies scam people.
