Reacher (2022)
Non stop action
I enjoyed both series. My only concern is the matter of fact way Reacher talks about killing people., like he's just taking out the trash. They enjoyed taking out the helicopter, like it was a great passing shot in tennis. There seems to be no consequences. Homeland & the police just let them walk away. I know it's a drama show, but some impressional youngsters might see this as good tole models.
However, I liked the 110th. It was a good mix of characters. They had great chemistry. You helieved they had trust and each other's backs. It would be good to see them again, although it's unlikely. Alan Ritchson does an excellent job as Reacher. Can't wait gor the next season.
Foundation (2021)
Based on? Not sure about that.
Visually stunning. A space opera. Decided to read the book to get a better understanding. Unfortunately there is very little the same (even less so than many adaptations.) Difficult to follow the different timelines and character stories. I'll keep going in the hope it will make sense at some point. It has something compelling about it.
OThe book is straightforward, linear (and mundane) but does jump ahead so maybe that's why this was changed. Don't see why they bothered to call it Foundation? Worth a watch if you like space and visual aesthetics and confusing plot lines. Let's hope it comes clearer.
Le chevalier Tempête (1967)
Childhood Favourite
Loved this show and watched all the repeats. We saw a few European children's shows in the 1960s and 1970s. They were great fun. Yes, I can still sing the theme song. Not really sure about the history, politics and what the cardinal was doing. Great action scenes, handsome, brave protagonist, comedy sidekick & damsel in distress. Love a bit of swash and buckle. Never knew why the Beeb only showed the final episode once. Thst was very frustrating when watching the repeats. I kept thinking i imagined it. I have it on DVD (yes I still have one). I should take a nostalgic trip down memory lane. I believe that final episode is on it. (For years I thought I imagined it.)
The Swarm (2023)
Supet Sci fi suspense series
Great show. Haven't read the book but have now bought it. I loved the different characters all bringing their perspectives and expertise. Each episode built tension well and made me watch next one immediately, and then I'd watched the whole thing, which is done thing I rarely do. I was one of those 'movies don't do justice to book' people but now accept they are different media with different rules. No, there were no gun toting Americans shooting bad guys so some viewers may find the lack of car chases etc makes for a boring show, but for me it was suspense filled from the start. Plus the locations were spectacular, highlighting that we really do need to protect our planet.
Review update: have now read the book and understand readers' disappointment. No way could a TV show have even a tenth of what happened in the book and not break the bank. Glad I saw the show first and reviewed it as a separate entity.
Stay Close (2021)
Harlan hit
Another good Coben story crossing the Atlantic. Kept you wanting to watch more. Did work out the ending but didn't detract from the drama. Cream of British actors meant I was always going to watch it. They didn't disappoint.
Sex Education: Episode 8 (2021)
Life imitates art
Love the show. Dragging out Maeve & Otis a little longer. 😥Need to get clinic back in action. Drove past 'Moordale School' this week (my old college) and the developers are there building houses. Main building is listed so safe.
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
Great performances
I've read the book, which I didn't really enjoy. I decided to watch because of the cast. Glad I am,
they're all fab.
Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector (2020)
Not the books
How is beat cop, Sachs, suddenly a detective interviewing suspects. Walking the grid, where did that go? Miss the book characters and characterization.
