Fire Island (2022)
I Liked It
Let me first confess that I am straight. Let me further confess that I have partied at Cherry Grove (and other venues) on Fire Island and it was a BLAST! So my review is based strictly on nostalgia, not on what little I know about gays .
Animal Kingdom: Launch (2021)
I Hate The Flashbacks!!!!!!!!
What is the purpose of the flashbacks? And with a young actress playing Smurf who is 3 inches taller than the older Smurf. Do the flashbacks have a point! We already know that Smurf was amoral and vicious, and a prime candidate for Worst Mother Of The Century. What I do is DVR the Sunday episode so that I can watch it on Monday and fast-forward through the flashbacks.
The White Lotus (2021)
ANNOYING MUSIC
I'm doing okay (but not really) with the story line and the characters, although it is/they are as quirky as hell. The only character that rings true is Nicole Mossbacher.
This is supposed to be a comedy and I'm still waiting for the funny. The two episodes I have watched are good for entertainment value only while I work on my laptop.
My main objection is the LOUD, INTRUSIVE, POUNDING background music that is giving me migraines! Have Mercy!
Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021)
Welcome Back!
Christopher Meloni, welcome back to the Law & Order family!
Fargo (2014)
Fargo Season 4 Comment
With regard to Fargo Season 4: I was SO looking forward to it . . . what a disappointment.
With 3 years (between Seasons 3 & 4) to perfect the script, why was the story line such a horror? If there is going to be a Season 5, the writers have to work harder or get new writers.
Cold Pursuit (2019)
Good Cover Of The Original!
I have seen the original 2014 Norwegian film 'In Order of Disappearance' (Kraftidioten) three times. Is that a clue that I liked it?
I was pleasantly surprised to find that 'Cold Pursuit' followed the original script almost to the letter.
The only thing wrong with the plot of both movies is that the writer(s) wanted to show two grieving parents when the son was killed, but then wanted to concentrate the story line on the husband (Nils/Nels). No problem.
However, the vague and ambiguous way the wife left Nils/Nels was baffling in the extreme. There were no discussions, no accusations, no confrontations, no arguments, no nothing - except the wife clearing out so the story can concentrate on the husband.
Other than that, I think it was very interesting - dare I say funny at times - story.
If you liked 'Cold Pursuit', you really should try to see 'Kraftidioten' (In Order Of Disappearance). Just make sure that you have 'Kraftidioten' with subtitles in your native language as 'Kraftidioten' is totally in Norwegian.
The Split (2018)
Poorly Written Prime Time Soap Opera
Why the producers approved this script will baffle me until the end of time - unless the writer was one of the producers. Don't blame Nicola Walker or any of the cast for this mess, it was the story. The Split was nothing more than a prime time soap opera.
I agree with ray-smithwhite that "the will she/won't she saga of whether Hannah will leave her husband Nathan for Christie became tedious and boring". Rehashing the same old subject between Hannah and Christie really did become absurd: have a discussion, make a decision, stick with that decision, end of.
And Hannah, who is guilty in her own right, keeps giving guilty Nathan mixed signals. Unbelievable!
Besides Nina's drunken rant, the third thing that bothered me was the reappearance of Oscar wanting to sell the Defoes firm to get "his share".
When he actually says that to Ruth, why didn't she immediately say "I've given you money all these years, the firm is in bad financial shape, no more for you!"?
No, it is left to Nina (in another scene) to review the firm's financial records and confront Ruth. And if we received an explanation as to why Ruth kept supporting Oscar - while keeping her children from Oscar, it was inadequate at best.
If this is truly a mini-series, please let episode 6 be the end. The viewers can wonder what happened, just as we have been wondering from episode 1.
Jack Reacher (2012)
Runt As Reacher
I wrote to Mr. Child before the movie was released after I found out that TC was cast to play Jack Reacher. (Too bad I was not consulted beforehand.) I expressed my profound dismay that an arrogant runt was playing an unconceited giant. Mr. Child never responded, but his assistant tried to assure me that Mr. Child had every confidence that TC would do a good job and make a convincing Jack Reacher. Trust me, if you are a big fan of Lee Child's Reacher novels, you will die and be in Heaven for a thousand years before any such conviction takes hold. I have reviewed the box office results since the movie opened and I could not be happier that the movie is doing poorly. May this be the last of this travesty. Creative casting may be okay for a satire, but this purported to be a serious action/drama. Let's get real!
