More a Comment not a review: Be Warned
Much like the oft seen caveat before a SciFi adventure film that warns about possible chance of causing seizures and other optical-sensitivity symptoms due to a film's special effects;
this series should put a warning notice before each ep.
Be warned: this dark, brutal program might make you experience/re-live your own PTSD of having grown up in an American Family.
A very dark exemplary, this cinematic distillation of the American Ethos.

What's Up With Disney
This is not a review, exactly.
So, what's up with Disney channel not listing Mickey Rourke
in their Details page?** Sure, maybe they had a falling out ... cuz Rourke
is a really really really good actor, or something.
When Disney + adds his name to the list I'll bump up the stars.
Rourke's added drama and actual acting in the piece could have taken the series to a whole other level, like Nolan's Batman forays.
I am having a little trouble with the whole close up on Robert Downey jr face while he's flying around in... the Suit
** BTW, Disney channel lists an actor in Captain America named Tommy Jones,
hmmm I wonder if it's that other really really really good actor, of similar name? LOL

Let Me Put It THIS Way
I find the 4-Armed Cricket people a LOT more interesting than say,
the Thor franchise wherein VIKING gods run around in ROMAN CENTURION
garb-malapropism
just sayin

Thread Of Emotional Authenticity
I won't review, or describe the plot, per se, but wanted to at least put down some addendum comments:
Yoshiko Kuga is notable for a number of A-list and B-list films and performances.
This film may not reach the pinnacle of an A-list Art film but it is one of my favorites, one that I often revisit. Yes there are a number of plot lines, perhaps awkwardly juxtaposed, but for me there is, at its core, an emotional and humanistic authenticity.
I do wish there was more biographical data, and More Celebration of the actors from this "golden" era of Japanese film ... so many performances that resonate, and leave an indelible mark. I even love the, basically, cameo, performance by Rentaro Mikuni as the brutal thug.
...
just a few thoughts to add to the notes on this film
Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
Cannot Actually Review this Piece
All I know is that I cannot Not Watch this iteration. It is all mystery to me. Perhaps I need a primer on " David Lynch" (forthcoming on Criterion DVD) I Must Admit I do not Understand
My gut tells me it is pure invention, with fragments of the recognizable.
Never-the-Less:
Pure Mystery

"Kinoshita gets the tone right in his movie" Redux
I watched Farewell to Dream soon after watching Snow Flurry. As beautiful and aspiring as Snow Flurry is, I was not fully convinced by the performances of its cast. However, Farewell To Dream hits the mark. Not only the tone, but the pacing, editing, the story line, and on the mark performances make this film a poignant and classic iteration of the Kinoshita style. While Keisuke Kinoshita has directed a number of films considered more "Classic": 24 Eyes, and Ballad of Narayama, in my view some of his lesser appreciated (?, accessible?) films such as Thus Another Day and Farewell to Dream represent and attain a level of emotional authenticity in Cinema often found missing in even the most Classic, High Art, Films of the "Golden Age" of Japanese Cinema.
