The Forgiven (2021)
So much could have been made claustrophobic and alternately opened up.
The talent was first rate. The differences emphasized. (I would have added difference between Arabs and Berbers)
But the film was acting as though I was reading it from the book. The revelers at the kasbah grated after awhile with one short scene as to the opinions of the guests (coked up) showing further rifts in world opinion. Therefore, the Fiennes portion was the soul of this film, and change that occurs within his character.
I would like to see it done again with more subtlety.....
The Group (1966)
Lumet, and bevy of actresses make it better than you remembered
Subplot of contraception in 1933 is one of the items, that has renewed interest .
We are of a generation that can still remember all these actresses from their other star vehicles ..... Joan Hackett, Jessica Walter, and a really good Shirley Knight.
Ah, but the stony Ms Bergen is the most progressive ingenue to emerge from this class.
Prime Suspect (2011)
How could this series not have been renewed ?
Best ensemble of actors ever to grace a cop show. All seasoned and Maria Bello is a terrific hard hitting actress to push forward the idea of a female led cop show, or any drama for that matter.
Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021)
Organized Crime is a script in Chaos
I don't believe it even knows where it is going, and a laughable villain of the Batman kind is just annoying. The Cyber subplot is silly.
Please go on hiatus and think about what you want to do next to fix what has been thus far a missed opportunity.
De la part des copains (1970)
It has a car chase scene
Perhaps it was a terrible copy of the film, but it was trite and terrible. Why Liv Ulmann ? James Mason an embarrassment. BUT the car chase scene through the Alps was good.. do the French ever catch their prey ?
Joker (2019)
Joker is Joaquin plus some cinematography and set design
It is surprising to me that JOKER could ne taken seriously, as obvious Vemice did. It lacks focus, and even then tries too hard to include societal problems. Why even include the Wayne saga in the formation of the core psyche if our antihero. Joker has all the seeds buried within his DNA without the late 70's NYC rat problem. You don't have to search for crappy people in any society.
It bites off more than it need chew storywise, which ultimately diminishes any empathy we might confer for Joker despite Phoenix's performance, and it is a performance !. De Niro is there to remind us of Jo's king of Comedy, underrated it should be seen more.
DARK smoky photography to go with set design are also good. Otherwise just not comvincing.
