Run Hide Fight (2020)
Great film and great performances!
First of all, this is not the kind of movie I typically prefer. My favorite shows are where I can escape into something sweet or romantic, like a Jane Austen movie. But I decided to watch this and found myself thoroughly entertained. It was a fast ride because it was so engrossing. The message is strong and positive. The main actress was totally convincing. I highly recommend seeing this film just to have your faith in humanity restored.
Jonathan Creek: The Sinner and the Sandman (2014)
I liked it
I have enjoyed all the episodes of this show, even when I thought it was stupid that his sidekicks were so rude and fickle towards Jonathan! And they were. I just always loved Jonathan's funny character and his ability to figure out the answers to all the puzzles. He's a cutie and likable. So I like his wife, I like seeing him with someone who is pretty and kind to him! He deserves to be happy! I liked this mystery, the humor and especially that he is happily married. I think she is his best "sidekick."
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017)
She's not funny! Love the costumes and sets
Disclaimer: I watched this through VidAngel which edited out all the foul language and nudity for me because I don't like foul language or nudity. The most disappointing thing is that SHE'S NOT FUNNY. I wanted her stand up to be funny, but it wasn't. She obviously relied on swearing and indecent exposure for her humor which wouldn't be funny to me. Worst of all, in the 3rd episode she speculates that she shouldn't have had her children! During her stand-up routine! How is that funny? Being a mother of 3 kids that I adore, I can't imagine how little she cares for her kids. It's not believable and NOT funny! That's where I had to stop watching. I give 2 stars for the costumes and sets. I wanted to like this, but it's intolerable.
Father Brown: The Lair of the Libertines (2015)
Awful! Be warned
I have to say that I LOVE Father Brown and have enjoyed all of the episodes so far, but this one was just awful! It was so different from all the rest! I hope they don't keep continuing like this. All of the characters were just creepy and cringy, especially the killer. Father Brown, Lady Felicia and Mrs. McCarthy accidentally end up at a hotel where a bunch of hedonists are hanging out seeking their pleasures, including drugs, nudity, and prostitution. But it was so silly and over the top, it was just embarrassing! I love Mark Williams as Father Brown, and he was still his wonderful self, but everything else was awful. I couldn't wait for this episode to end. I wish I could've skipped it. I'm praying the writers haven't run out of good ideas because so far, they have been so clever and wonderful. Just not this one!
My Mother and Other Strangers (2016)
Beautiful cinematography, but main story is about adultery
This movie got really great reviews on Amazon and is rated PG, so I thought it would be pretty wholesome to watch with my 16 year old daughter. I was very disappointed to find that the core of the story is about two married people that apparently fall in love. This is just not what I like to see. It made me feel bad to watch a woman make choices that would devastate her good husband and children. I hated the thought of her hurting them all. I once saw "Bridges of Madison County" and also disliked it very much. If you like stories of adultery, then you might like this. Everything else about it is gorgeous. The acting, the scenery, the costumes, and everything are high standards. Just not the story! So disappointing because I LOVE Hattie Morahan as Elinor in Sense and Sensibility.
Like Crazy (2011)
Crazy UNlove
This movie made me angry. I thought it started out well, I liked the realistic style. The couple was cute for the first 10 minutes. In the end, it was boring, tiresome and felt like a commercial for Urban Outfitters and promiscuity.
This movie is about two dull people who DON'T love each other. Every time they are apart, they find somebody else. Even after they get MARRIED! The girl even goes so far as to get so involved with someone (after she's MARRIED) that the new guys PROPOSES to her! The couple only had to be apart for 6 MONTHS!!!! They can't wait 6 months? They literally get married and then go right to other people. THEN, after the 6 months, they reunite and it's totally UNEVENTFUL. They're not excited to be together whatsoever! This movie was a drag through the dirt for me. They DON'T love each other. This movie is an insult to people who really love and are devoted and faithful to each other.
A Summer Story (1988)
Sad--Main character very selfish
I am surprised by all the good reviews of this film. If you like Jane Austen-type movies, you probably wont like this one. I thought it was a well-done film, but the story was heart-breaking and aggravating with a very selfish main character. It was so painful to see, not beautiful the way everyone else seems to see it. A man takes complete advantage of a girl, promises he'll never leave her and within two days drops her like a hot potato. He never comes back. Meanwhile, she's pregnant, has his child and dies of a broken heart. Not that she wasn't to blame, she shouldn't have been so foolish to fool around with him. I like movies where people like him are the villain, not the hero (Like Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility, or Wickham in Pride and Prejudice were villains) People, stop thinking that selfishness and taking advantage is "romantic!!" Viewer, BEWARE!
