Unfrosted (2024)
Wasted Opportunity.
This movie looks good and has a great supporting cast. It tries to be stupid funny and is mostly stupid. However, it is also mostly free on Netflix so why are you reading this, just watch it (I know you pay monthly Blah Blah).
This would have been way better without Jerry and with better writing. In other words, it would have been pretty good if it wasn't so bad. Not sure if anyone under 50 will get all the references. I gave it a 6 just because I am an over rater.
Lastly: You don't make jokes about Gus Grissom"s death. You just don't. If anyone deserves not to be a joke in a crappy movie its that guy.
The Good Fight: The One Inspired by Roy Cohn (2019)
Blum is Horrible. He's like a Punch in the face.
The Blum Character is so bad I can't believe they didn't stop him. It is like a horrible punch in the face every time he comes on screen. Why did this actor, who is normally very good, decide to do a horrible Al Pacino imitation? One can only guess.
The real question is, where the hell was the director and why didn't he stop him??. (This character sucked when Al Pacino did him and he is Al Pachino)
In the 80s I had seen a British TV show where they had a Brit playing an American. It was hilarious the way the English actor combined a Southern, Brooklyn, and Boston accent so each sentence he spoke sounded like he was from some other region of the country. This guy, who is a brit, I guess just watched scent of a woman 30 times and went with that.
The Good Wife: Two Girls, One Code (2012)
Very Close to Jumping the Shark here.
Great show. I was never interested in it just based on the title, The Good Wife. Now 14 years later, I have been binging it and I am obsessed. However, this storyline does a disservice to the Kalinda character. What a wonderful character Kalinda is and she brings so much to this show. I hope they pull this out of this nose dive and bring her character back to quietly saving the day, like an old-time hero in a cowboy movie.
As far as the rest of the episode, as usual, it is extremely entertaining and thought-provoking. What a great show this is. I would place it in a league with The Sopranos and The Wire.
You Hurt My Feelings (2023)
Great little Movie, especially if your are 50 or over.
I enjoyed this movie. I found it almost cathartic and calming. Definitely an entertaining watch on a Sunday afternoon. I am so exhausted by all the movies that romanticize murderers or take you on a painful emotional journey. Often, I just want a calm escape.
The acting is very good and the characters are very relatable.
I think on the surface this is about a relationship but it hits home with issues for people in their 50s and over. The way you look at your career and how others may see you. How we, who grew up in the 70s and 80s, raised our children. When you get to this point in life, I also think you find yourself more concerned about what others think (or thought) about you.
I can't say what someone in their 20s or 30s today might think. When I was 20 or 30, I would not have found this movie as relatable as I do now in my 50s.
Father of the Year (2018)
STUPID FUNNY MOVIE - Geez Lighten up reviewers.
A movie about A-holes and their Looser fathers.
It's just plain old stupid funny. If you don't like A-Holes don't watch it. If you do like movies that are silly and stupid, like Super Bad, Step-Brothers, etc., then this is for you. This is an Adam Sandler movie without Adam Sandler.
I mean it's free on Netflix (I know Netflix is not free) so win-win.
I like the fact that Mr. Sandler gives his friends and family work. Family and friends should mean something to a person.
Lastly:
I don't get the Negative reviews. What movies are they comparing this to?
(How does a reviewer type "Not My Kind of Humor" and this gets 40 thumbs up? What does that even mean? What is their type of humor and why do I care? )
Fallout (2024)
WOW, This is Great Classic Sci-Fi.
Not a gamer, don't care how this compares. Blah Blah.
However, for over 5 decades I have been a fan of Sci-Fi, Movies, Books, Short stories and Television. This show is a wonderful progression of what classic Sci-Fi is all about. It is beautiful to look at. The casting/acting is stellar. The story is interesting, and keeps you thinking. Like all good Sci-Fi it also says something about human nature. Lastly, even though it has amazing effects the viewer is not over whelmed with all types of chaos and nonsense (see the last few avenger movies) on the screen. This is very story/actor driven and the effects and simulated 1950s supertech is such a wonderful visual feature.
Watch this it one of the best shows I have seen in a while.
The Iron Claw (2023)
What a Surprise ..... WOW Def watch this.
I am retired. I read quite a bit and I watch a lot of movies and TV. Some stuff I watch I categorize as "Background" viewing. Something to have on in the back ground while I read or I am on my laptop. This is NOT A BACKGROUND MOVIE.
The overall story depicted in this movie is so moving and enthralling that I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. The casting and acting was amazing. Zack Efron should really be considered seriously as an actor and not just a comedy guy. All the actors were just so great. They way it was shot. The color palette and graininess really brought me back to the early eighties. I think the story moves at a great pace. I never really a got the whole wrestling thing. Over the years, even though I didn't watch it, I found I developed a reluctant respect for it as an entertainment form. However my respect for the actors and entertainers that participated in it and moved to acting is very high. This film is NOT REALY A WRESTLING FILM, as much as it is a film about family. Unless you are made from wood, this movie will move you and have an effect on you.
Abbott Elementary (2021)
A fun, warm place to visit.
I really like this show. I am fan of the office and obviously the way this show is shot and the pacing are very similar. But what is also similar is the depth of the characters. They sneak it up on you. Initially they are all just entertaining and silly, but as the episodes unwind they slowly and tactfully turn the characters into real people that you bond with. There is so much negativity in the world. The news media and the internet would have you believe everyone is horrible. However one of life's truths, that I strongly believe, is that the majority of people are inherently good. For me, I prefer shows that show people as being good and caring. I think because we have been so desensitized and made defensive by the news media and other medias that it is so much easier to process "Niceness" when it is presented in a funny way which is what this show does. Finally I have to say I love the Mrs Howard character. She is just so realistic and reminds me of so many women I have met and seen in action in my life. Women who stoically keep things working and moving in this country. What a lovely and admirable character that plays homage to so many real heroes.
