Battlestar Galactica: The Oath (2009)
not up to the same level as the rest of the series
OK, we already had enough of hatch/zarek, but apparently Moore wants to focus on hatch and gaeta. frankly, the idea of a mutiny is a little hard to suspend disbelief - we are talking about career soldiers here, who have followed a popular admiral after the demise of their entire civilization, with only their duty and loyalty holding them together - the entire crew is going to rally behind some pis-ant gimp junior officer? give me a break Moore. you clearly do not have a grasp of the military mind, and you have abandoned the characters that you built over the last few years in some soprano like attempt to frak with your fans. gaeta should have been shot about ten minutes into his little farce. aside from this, these first few episodes have not lived up to the first half of season 4, which had been as good as the last half of season 2. disappointed my friend.
Underworld (2003)
A formula comic book action flick best seen stoned
If you like Kate Beckinsale, then you will like this. She is hot! But aside from that, this film is best seen stoned. The story started with a new twist on the overdone vampire thing but then failed to deliver anything really original. The action is unoriginal and lifted straight from other movies in this genre. The acting is mediocre, par at best but put some blame for this on the poor script. I also found the soundtrack not to be memorable.
Kudos' for the uber cool work by production designers, lighting and cinematographers. The direction is a competent and it is well cut to maintain a good tempo. Overall a very stylish effort at this genre.
I personally enjoyed the film, but then again that's mostly because I think Kate's hot. I would also recommend Van Helsing to anyone who liked this.
