Wooly Boys (2001)
A funny Freewheelin' version of: 'Get busy Living or get busy dying!
BEWARE: If You supported Jeb Bush and his brother's Terri Shrivo's 'Right to Life' case, 'The Wooly Boys' is out of your league and definitely NOT FOR YOU!! It's film about getting busy living, here and now with dying with dignity when that time comes.
'The Wooly Boys' is set in North Dakota where men are men and the sheep are running scared in 3/4 time! Peter Fonda and Kris Kristofferson are fantastic together as sheep herders Stoney and Shuck. Although Kris has a pretty crappy opening scene, he shines as Shuck, Stoney's 'pain in the ass', yet ever loyal/lovable friend. I hope you'll agree, Joe Mazzello is an acting force to be reckoned with!
I thought it's justifiably funny, especially in the wake of Terri Shrivo, to have the heroes committing numerous felonies, most with a deadly weapon starting with assault, two counts of kidnapping, The Mann Act, and grand theft just to get Stoney out of the hospital back home to live and die with dignity. Felonies must run in the family, Stoney's grandson Charles is a computer hacker with a chip on his shoulder and too much time on his hands. But, it is totally worth the price of the rental to see Kris Kristofferson cross dressed in a nurses uniform!
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
"Never discuss Politics and Religion..."
Okay, so I watch this flick of a man named Jesus being beaten savagely by dudes on a complete and total sadist trip of the most vicious kind! I was told this was an act of Love. This savage sacrifice of God's own begotten son; His miracle baby born to die like a broken beaten down stuck pig, for a God who's nose is out of joint because his original creations practiced the Freedom of Choice the God gave them in the first place. Then like a Republican, this god starts to take the freedom of choice away! What the hell is a free choice when one is severely punished for not choosing the 'right' way...like Russian Roulette
where is the freedom in this?
To the way I was brought up, if this God were personified, I'd make it my life's mission to have this him locked away in solitary confinement in a maximum-security prison with minimum contact to the outside world! Well, maybe Charles Manson in a 'birds of a feather' kinda way. And, this God, I feel has a problem; serious anger, sadistic, power tripping issues that desperately need to be addressed! So, I'd allow a therapist and vipassana teacher and three guards ready to give him a taste of his own medicine if he chooses to 'get out of line', or if we have any 'failure to communicate'.
Jesus also said, 'You will reap what you sow! What you put out will come back to you up to 150 fold!' Therefore, I feel it is wise to treat others the way one demands being treated! But, very sadly, as their actions speak louder than their words the Republicans have twisted the Golden Rule into: 'Do unto Others Before They Do Unto You'!

But, the thing that I was left with in the end, and now almost a year later, is how little effect this movie had affected the American public, who flocked to see it again and again. I judge not, rather I observe the fruits of their efforts. Two years later we are still fighting a War in Iraq started by US. Yet, Iraq's leader posed zero threat to US. He got rid of the WMD George Bush and Ronald Reagan sold him back in the 80's. And Saddam was a maniacal madman back then which was why these two sold him WMD! What kind of patriot sells WMD to a known tyrannical brutal killer?
Today, two years later approx. 15,000 innocent civilians, many are children who have been 'accidentally' killed by US: "We're sorry"! The Soldiers are just following orders and then, War is hell. So, why is America, a nation founded upon Christian (Christ-like) teachings at War in the first damn place? Jesus Christ is The Prince of Peace. Period. There have been no revisions, nor have their been amendments since George W. Bush, the Christian War President, was sworn into his appointed, then allegedly elected office. Jesus is the example Christians, including American Christians are supposed to be following! He taught, 'Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despiteful use you, and persecute you; for if you love them which love you, what reward have you? Do not even the republicans the same?'
I observe the United States is acting like the 'god' in their bible, when they are supposed to be acting like the his miracle son Jesus Christ: Prince of Peace! I think Jesus said some nutty things like, He was here to change the old laws of the Father like an eye for an eye, to: love your neighbor as you love yourself! So many 'Christian' men have jerked US off; I wonder why they hate gays! However, I don't think that is what was meant
The saddest part of all is hearing the American War president say Jesus Christ is his hero! Then he starts a War over WMD his in country inspectors told him were not there! Then, bares false testimony to justify 'doing to Iraq before Iraq does to US'
what Iraq is incapable of doing: Bomb the hell out of a country that never once threatened them! Nor were any Iraqi citizens apart of the 19 hijackers in the 9/11 attacks! However, 13 of those hijackers were Saudis. But, the most horrible utterances I have heard coming from a 'man of God' that appalls me the most is Christian Evangelical Reverend Jerry Falwell who said, "Carpet Bomb the people of Iraq in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ"! while being interviewed by Wolfe Blitzer in October 2004. (NOTE: Jerry F., Jesus Christ is The Prince of Peace! Pray tell, what Jesus are you praying to?)
This is what I call republican sense, please follow this analogy: We know the Rapists and murderers (terrorists) live on Elm Street (Saudi Arabia) but we start bombing Lincoln Ave (Iraq) thinking the leader still had the WMD sold to him by US during the 80's!
and the real Rapists and murderers getaway with it. And the leaders profit off the war!
but one NOT two leaders have no any noble family members in service of our country, but there is one Senator Joe Biden. With 'Christian leadership' of a profiting War President like this, we don't need foreign enemies or terrorists!
I think it's great to see Mel Gibson has 'sold out' his Holy Spirit Guided flick 'The Passion of Christ RECUT'. Did the Holy Spirit not know the savage violence would turn some people off and limit its audience? Did the movie not make enough money last spring? (NOTE: Jesus Christ, if you come down here again in physical form, they will crucify you again! Las Vegas bookies lay even odds. You better bring some friends!)
Peace and Good will all the same, Silly Whyteboye
The Bank Shot (1974)
What can be said about Bank Shot that hasn't been said about a burning painful rectal itch?
Can you imagine if some brilliant producer in 1971 decided 'Deliverance' would be 'better' if they changed Ned Beatty's character 'Bobby' to 'Bobbi' and cast Shelly Winters instead? And instead of going down a river in canoes they are going down the highway on motorcycles. And Bobbi's big squeeee-eeel takes place in a canyon off the highway thru Monument Valley! Or Could you imagine some Hollywood suit in 1972 coming up with the brilliant changes for 'The Exorcist': They make Father Karras struggling with his sexual repression and sexual identity having to face his demons before he acts upon them! Change Regan's character from a girl to a Scottish terrier, oh and, of course, get this: Change The Devil to Jesus Christ. 'Bank Shot' is a perfect example of what happens when novels are adapted to the screen...some 'writer' thinks they can improve a tried a true novel! Oh, here's a brilliant Idea for 'Good Fellas'! All the males are gay and they would substitute their acts of violence for acts of sex which is expressed rage at their fathers seed and for their fathers lack of affection and Love. The club they go to they attend in drag. Of course, all guns would be replaced with latex replicas of their manhood! The 'Clown Scene' would make it NC 17.
'Bank Shot' the novel has those lovable guys from 'The Hot Rock'; Dortmunder, Kelp, Greenberg, Stan Murch and his ma! But, they turned it into a campy, I don't know what. All the characters were so animated they didn't resemble anything Donald E. Westlake wrote.
As far as a movie goes They pretty much kept the plot of (going by the book) Dortmunder and Co. stealing the WHOLE bank! This is screwball enough because the bank is under construction and the temp bank is a trailer as in a Trailer Home. They put it on wheels and drive off with it. They paint it in a football stadium, then move it to a trailer park, where the neighbor's sprinklers wash the wet the paint off...as the police are looking for the Bank! Having to move the trailer while (Kelp-the Locksmith) is trying to rack the safe with little success! They end up parking on the side of a desolate road on a hill and quickly making it look like a roadside café to provide coffee and donuts for the cops who are looking for the bank.
George C.Scott does comedy very well, don't get me wrong. And I am sure his character was funny...but I was expecting John Dortmunder, not this Ballentine guy who who rips off Donald E. Westlake's immortal character John Dortmunder! Not my fav. Joanna Cassidy...how can ya NOT like the twinkle in her eyes right before she laughs! She jiggles when she laughs, ya know?! I just can n to help but laugh with her! She is contagious in this way! I believed her, at least that she was having fun! and now, 30 years later...be still my heart! She still twinkles and jiggles! and has become an accomplished actress! She does have a great body...of work!
In closing, my final but philosophical pitch: 1972 Walter Hill and Sam Peckinpah adapted Dr. Hunter S. Thompson's 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas'. Sam Peckinpah would direct; Mr. Hill-AD. I would pick Dustin Hoffman to play 'Duke'. I think George C. would have done a great job as 'Dr. GonZo' if 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' was made in 1974, instead of this corny camp.
1 star because of Joanne Cassidy! She is the ONLY reason worth watching this one.
