The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)
A real surprise. 2 thumbs up.
Before I saw this film I knew nothing about it so I had no expectations, I left with a huge smile on my face. I don't need to go into what the film is about (just watch the trailer) but I can say the acting in this is top notch. The young cast is brilliant and direction well done. Logan Lerman - Charlie is a likable quiet boy who struggles for his acceptance at the time of battling his mental health and plays the role to perfection. Emma Watson - Sam is of course beautiful but her acting just grows in leaps and bounds. The the extroverted gay boy Pat who is played by Ezra Miller and he dominates every scene he is in, a performance IMO worthy of award recognition. Overall a stellar casting job and a well written script (Book) is just well worth story to go see. Directing wise its good but you do not get full closure on Charlies mental health problems, not sure if this was done intentionally or it was by choice, or maybe I need to give it another watch to fill in what I may have missed, but if I missed it IMO no my fault it means the story should have been told better.
Premium Rush (2012)
Not much to see here
Would like to say I had high expectations for this film, Joseph Gordon Levitt is a excellent actor as is the most of the cast, the problem with this film is it gives very little depth to any of the characters. Plot is thin to say the least. An Asian lady trying to get her son in into America (why you'd want that to start with??) is a better story line than your typical drugs or dooms day type plot but its just seems faff and does not get you into the desperation one would go to. The directing in this film is also terrible and it become nauseating watching bike chase after bike chase, I would say at least 75% of the film is just shots of J G-L riding his bike in New York and for the first 10 mins its really cool..... after 60 mins its boring. The acting saves this film mainly by J GL and also the bad guy who is played by Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire, Shelter) so its not all bad but its not worth paying to go see.
The Baytown Outlaws (2012)
Horrible...
This is a terrible play by numbers action film. A very average cast of actors led by Billy Bob Thornton as the gangster plays out in Southern part of America. Basically the film is made for red neck hicks and is about red neck hicks. The story line of 3 brothers who kill anyone regardless of who they are for money does not allow the characters to develop in anyway what so ever. Start of the film shows the 3 Oddie Brother murder and kill a group of Hispanic Americans only to find out they killed the wrong innocent people, but then the movie tries to switch gears and show these guys out as some type of Robin Hood do good nice guys. The action is average at best and basically goes from one terrible scene to the next. The actors used in this film are really best suited for day time soaps rather than on the big screen. Avoid at all costs. Horrible film with no redeeming qualities at all.
