Dune (2021)
Amazing, sci fi at its best
Ignore the mouth breathers giving this a low score as they are just disappointed it's not a fast and furious sequel .
Let's get down to it , the choice of actors for each character is amazing, everyone performs brilliantly and the relationships on screen work so well. Timothèe is incredible from the young boy to the fighting to using the voice commandingly.
The visuals in this film are epic. It's one of the few films where a viewing in the cinema is a must. It's so immersive , it really feels like a created universe.
The run time is long which is good, it means they can get as much as possible in with fewer changes to story which is inevitable with a film adaptation. There are too many idiots complaining of it being too long or others saying they left out certain moments . The director set out to make an adult Star wars and he did it, now if only they can make a red rising series to this quality. Hoping the sequel is green lit.
Blood of Zeus (2020)
Good animation but pointless story
I don't understand why they would choose to do a Greek mythology inspired series to then add in pointless demons , why not make it about the actual myths like the trails of Hercules or Theseus etc there was easily enough . An alright watch but just felt like it could have been so much more interesting
Imawa no Kuni no Arisu (2020)
Interesting start usual flat finish
As always with Japanese inspired manga and anime it's high concept that is sort of out the box or interesting which then gets worse as the series goes on . Much like Japan sinks 2020 they have a good start that inspires curiosity. As it gets further in the dialogue and decisions fall off to the ridiculous. E.g and office worker who will stop at nothing to survive but despite knowing what she must do opts to wear heels for games she might have to run in.. ok . But back to the rest the strange cult idea could be plausible but would people really act how they are or have the food to do it. Just odd decision making as usual. Much like the way sword art online goes from thriller esk scenario to odd plot lines that shouldn't have been there . Sadly I know they just keep producing this stuff
Nihon Chinbotsu 2020 (2020)
Started on a Interesting idea
As usual an interesting idea and good first episode lead to a downward slope of bad dialogue and odd story decisions. Japan sinks indeed sinks to 5 stars. The animation style was ok I could see why they chose it . As for the dialogue it just doesn't feel like real people , just very odd. Also the story seems to speed up as if Japan has always been in this situation even though the series seems like days have passed and society is suddenly some debauched but house
Dracula: The Dark Compass (2020)
Night time terror to waste of time error
The difference from the first episode to the third is baffling , the script in the first was witty and tense with moments of horror to this steaming mound of undead arses.
Near the beginning I thought ok they want to modernise ok ... I'll be patient and watch . They show the club scene and I immediately lost interest, as if I wanted to see irritating teen angst and love triangles I'll go watch twilight (no thanks). They then try and flip the myths of Dracula in the most boring and unimagined way. This mini series went from possible great to joke worthy awful.
Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (2019)
This is not black mirror.
This was ok for an episode of something . This is more the later years of that series Miley Cyrus did as a kid. But this is not black mirror , it was not dystopian or really that dark , I liked the first episode and the second had great acting , but so far it feels so mainstream compared to the other series . Just the nature of a successful series I guess.
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
Brilliant, fun and creepy
Istantly hooked , each episode has its own style and theme but all have a great vibe , I could honestly watch a whole series of some of these episodes. Amazing animation from realistic to the comic book style but often with horror or a ...nsfw style so definitely not for the kids ! I would love to see a sonnies edge series or good hunting or others tbh. Confidence in Netflix series reaffirmed.
Bird Box (2018)
A sit down watch but feels flat
It's pretty much the happening part 2 , however instead of plant life killing you it's some entity influencing you , an ok watch no complaints over acting or its effects it just didn't really feel like a progression , no solution or explanation. Just a chapter in a world as we know it ending in a format similar to the happening or quiet place
