13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016)
The devil is in the details (or in this case lack of)
Watchable movie, excellent action scenes but it lacks the human connection (I felt nothing for these characters).
All of these special OPS guys are portrayed as some bad ass, no emotion, tough guys but I can tell you tell you from experience that this is not the case (atleast most of the times). They are humans too and if you met them in real life you would probably not guess their professions (they can blend in).
This movie shows Mercedes Benz car models (GL and S) that did not exist at that time but were introduced only a year later in 2013. It is of course no biggie but makes one wonder how accurate the producers were about other aspects.
Mestari Cheng (2019)
Truly Beautiful movie
This is an excellent movie in many ways. The storyline and the way it is filmed is realistic, actors are very talented and the sceneries magnificent. It is a touching film but not in a corny way. The two old men are famous Finnish actors and they play their part so well that it does not even feel like they are acting (more like a documentary). It´s a feel good movie that will make you hungry, especially if you like Chinese cuisine.
I do not often rate movies, and can´t remember ever giving a 9 at Imbd, but this one deserved one.
Jason Bourne (2016)
Poor storyline in the cloak of Bourne
Even though this is an action packed movie with good or very good actors and an excellent director, the storyline is poor and the action scenes ridiculous (too much is too much).
Don´t get me wrong, I love the Bourne trilogy and even very much enjoyed Bourne Legacy, but it clearly shows that this one is not based on a book. It lacks any intelligent or meaningful storyline.
It feels like this only had the objective of making money with the Bourne status and good or very good, big name actors.
The other Bourne movies I have seen countless of times, I love them. They feel like you are living them with Bourne.
The Guilty (2021)
Original was gripping, this was boring
Anthony Fuqua is an excellent director (Training Day was superb) and Jake Gyllenhaal a good actor so I had my expectations pretty high.
Watching this I was surprised that they remade that original Danish movie which was a lot better (7/10). This one is so boring it made me feel sleepy in the evening (some stars for that).
Ferry (2021)
Very enjoyable watch
Didn't have high expectations and perhaps due to that I really enjoyed this movie. Was not predictable but of course if you have seen the series "undercover" you already will know partly what is going to take place.
Frank Lammers is an excellent actor that reminds me of James Gandolfini. Elise Schaap plays her role really well too.
Black and Blue (2019)
A very good movie
Enjoyed this movie a lot. Naomie Harris and Tyre Gibson are excellent actors and the film kept me at the edge of my seat. I was not familiar with either of these actors but the way they performed one can see a very bright future for both of them. The setting is great and at times it feels like you are living the movie yourself which is always a huge positive.
What kept me rating it even higher? The storyline turned out to be quite unrealistic and not very ambitious. Furthermore the story is quite predictable, and as it is not marvel movie, I found it amusing how many blows and injuries characters could withstand, shake their heads and keep on fighting. Turn a blind eye to these mishaps, and it is a very enjoyable action thriller that has similarities to Training Day.
Happy I watched it and most def one of the best movies (and I watch a lot) I have I seen in 2020 or 2021.
The Mustang (2019)
Beautiful movie
Seeing the Imbd score of the movie (6.9) I did not have high expectations and thus the movie surprised me, positively, by a landslide. Perplexed by the seemingly low scores because this is way beyond your ordinary movie.
This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Beautiful story in a beautiful setting. It is highly rare that I wish for a movie to last longer, but this is such a movie.
The main actor Matthias Schoenaerts is superb. It's a rare talent to communicate with non verbal communication and he excels at it. I have seen him in other movies before but did not know that he is such an excellent actor.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
Should have been 2 movies and filmed realistically
Loving the books and LOTR films Peter Jackson made, the Hobbit was a big disappointment.
Negatives:
1. They should have kept Hobbit in 2 movies (Jackson struggles to find ideas for 3 movies. I don't know who made the decision but it felt like the wrong one). 2. The movie feels like a cartoon or a computer game. 3. Action scenes were way too long and meaningless. They felt like a hack'n slash computer game where the characters are not in any danger at all (especially in the Goblin cave). Thorin receives a mace on his face, yet there are no bruises on his face (I know the big audience are children as well but we saw some heads flying too) 4. Jackson could have concentrated more on Radagast, a very interesting and easy-to-like character, and of the course the Dragon 5. 3D technology could have been better exploited especially in the mountain scene, dragon scene and fight scenes (arrows flying)
Positives:
1. Brilliant acting (Bilbo, Radagast, Gollum, Galadriel, Elrond)
Overall, I enjoyed the movie but unlike LOTR movies I would not necessarily watch it again
