Wheels of Fury (1998)
funny twisted spaghetti western
This is a funny black & white spaghetti western short (15m) that incorporates music by the indie band Scenic as well as original music. Revenge-minded, wheel-chair bound sheriff Pepper Mills (played by Amy Sedaris) forms an uneasy romantic alliance with clean cowboy Dusty Bits (played by Paul Dinello). They set off on an obsessive quest to the evil cowboy Colin Boils to justice. This movie is hilarious, a great homage to spaghetti western style, with a clever twist at the end. If you like High Noon, The Good, The Bad & the Ugly or Django Unchained, you should check out this movie. Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello were both stars of the Comedy Central TV Show Strangers With Candy. Highly recommended.
Shock Asylum (1997)
Committed to Hilarity
Shock Asylum is a black and white twisted dark comedy short co-directed by Dan Dinello & Paul Dinello (Uncle & Nephew). The film follows patient Mr. Gaxton who arrives at Phrenia State Hospital for a routine psychological exam required by his corporate employer. A brief examination by a mad psychiatrist (Stephen Colbert) finds Mr. Gaxton to be "angry & uncooperative." It leads to series of therapies that includes shock therapy and some other surprises - all in the name of "trying to help you." Colbert and Dinello are hilarious - they made this before Strangers With Candy & the Colbert Report, while working in Chicago at 2nd City. The video is only available from shockproductions.com on a compilation that includes Beyond the Door (Colbert & Dinello) & Wheels of Fury (Dinello & Sedaris), both of which are also hilarious.
