Nighthawk: Secrets of the Stealth (1992)
Good documentary, useful to those unfamiliar with the subject
I have seen this documentary many times, and I am quite familiar with the Nighthawk project. At the time this was filmed, the existence of the F-117A Stealth Fighter had been public knowledge for only three years or so. The short-lived F-117A is already obsolete and the Air Force has taken them all out of service, as far as I know. I disagree with the "other" reviewer that this was not a well-done documentary. The simple fact is, they probably used pretty much all of the information the Air Force was willing to give them, and their overall access to the project members and aircrews seemed pretty good, considering. The use of stock footage was unavoidable, as there was no way the USAF was going to allow them to use anything but since it was still an active weapons system at the time. There is such a thing as national security. The low-key female narrator was just right for such a documentary -- I just wish I knew who she is! Overall, this doc is well worth the hour, especially if you are a military aviation enthusiast.
The Job (2003)
Get me some towels!!!
This turkey is about as bad a film as I've seen in a very long time. If there is any real person like CJ March in this world, then God have mercy on her soul. And that goes for just about everyone else in the cast, with the apparent exception of the ex-priest who is CJ's "love interest." Naturally, this kind of a pan actually indicates that the actors involved did a fairly good job of making their reprehensible characters seem as reprehensible as they did. But a good film takes more than that, in my book. I found nothing socially redeeming about this film whatsoever, and any film which exposes one to such deplorable violence had better have plenty of socially-redeeming values. To call this a B-picture is to give it undeserved praise, and does an injustice to other perfectly good B-pictures! I give it a D -- and that's being generous.
Summary: Plot -- Excruciating Casting -- OK Acting -- Fair to Good Cinematography -- Good Score -- Good Bottom line -- Watch it only as a good example of a bad screenplay.
