Horrible Bosses (2011)
Easily The Worst Movie I Have Ever Seen.
Okay, I went to see this movie for a friend's birthday cause he wanted to see it desperately. I gotta say, I would've been better off letting my friend just in the theater while I spent my 98 minutes peacefully reading a book at Barnes and Nobles. This has got to be the worst movie I have ever seen! Let's start with the plot: three guys hate their bosses so the best thing to do is quit/find another job? No. Report their bosses? No. Ah that's right: let's murder them. The three main characters were annoying and over-the-top. They were too stupid to actually be believable. The dialogue was just an endless stream off curse words, sex jokes, and dirty humor which is typical in "comedies" these days. Last time I checked, comedies were supposed to be oh I don't know funny! The movie also had no "heart". The writers wanted this movie to be simply another dirty, raunchy comedy with absolutely no substance! The writers could've given the "evil bosses" a reason for the way they acted. It could've been a movie about understand different points-of-views and people's experiences but no...it was simply a movie about three guys who want to commit first-degree murder because they don't their bosses. There was absolutely nothing funny about that concept at all.
What's up with Jamie Foxx's character who served no purpose than to be the stereotypical black guy with a criminal record and the street cred. And while we're on the subject of stereotypes let's not forget the movie's ode to outsourcing with the Indian guy "Gregory" operating customer service for a built in GPS. He "saves the day" (go see the movie if you really really want to).
My advice: don't spend a dime on this movie. Sneak into, wait for it to come out on DVD, whatever...this movie was the worst. It was over-the-top, disgusting, cartoonish and incredibly unbelievable. Suspension of disbelief is one thing but this...oh man.
One redeeming quality: I liked Jennifer Aniston in this movie. Too bad she wasn't America's Sweetheart in this role.
Rock Monster (2008)
What Can I Expect Out of A Sci-Fi Original Movie? (Some spoilers)
That's a very good question...
Basically, this movie is about a group of American (and one British) college kids hiking in an Eastern European forest. They find an old sword embedded in a boulder, the hero (Jason) pulls it out. Upon arriving at a local village, the villagers are immediately frightened and angry at the kid who was the sword. Then we learn the sword unleashed the spirit of an evil wizard from the Middle Ages who comes back in the form of a walking pile of rocks. Then there's this really creepy guy with a stereotypical Eastern European name (Dimetri or something) who's incredible nice to the kids and then he turns out to be a madman who wants the evil wizard's powers! Oh and did I mention that the American kid who pulled out the sword is the descendant of the knight in shining armor who killed the wizard in the Middle Ages? Now the kids together with a militia of the village people must join forces to save the village from the Rock Monster! AH! It was beyond predictable and I can't even call it low budget because of the heavy use of special effects (which is by far the only thing that allows me to give this movie 3 stars). The lines are cheesy, the back story is also very vague and the flashback to it: incredibly bad. The actors were okay (except for the modern-day bad guy who honestly over acted) but the movie itself was poorly written. The ending, which I will not give away was also pretty lame and believe it or not it does leave room for a sequel (which I don't know why anyone would want to do).
All in all, it is a Sci-Fi movie (but you'd think they' make some entertaining ones). Watch if you want (attempt to at least). It's better than Hybrid but not that good.
Supernatural (2005)
Awesome without a doubt
There are only two shows about the supernatural that I love: The X-Files and Supernatural.
I heard about this show from a friend back when it aired. The first episode I saw was the fourth episode of the first season and from then on I was hooked. This show is very well written especially with its portrayals of the supernatural beings such as Bloody Mary, the Wendigo, the Hook Man etc. Before this show I had never heard of a Tulpa or a Shtriga (there was a tulpa in The X-Files). The writers did their homework researching myths and legends and the special effects team is amazing the way they bring the monsters to life. Similar to The X-Files: the show is developing a mytharc revolving around the special children and the Yellow Eyed Demon.
In The X-Files, it was aliens and government conspiracies and in Supernatural it's demons and possibly the Devil himself with the special children mirroring the alien/human hybrids & supersoldiers of The X-Files. The X-Files is more technical and combines "Law & Order" with supernatural phenomena & UFO-ology/conspiracies whereas Supernatural is about two "renegades" working outside the law in the shadows to fight off supernatural phenomena.
Supernatural has very good actors in Jared and Jensen and the tidbits of comic relief usually provided by Jensen Ackles' characters here and there are timed very well. Two episodes of Supernatural mirror the X-Files and why wouldn't they? Serveral people who worked on the X-Files now work on Supernatural. Sam and Dean, the name of the main characters who both believe can be slightly compared to Mulder and Scully. Dean is the risk taker with a more hands on approach & a sarcastic sense of humor similar to Mulder and Sam is the researcher and the rational one with a personality similar to Scully.
Overall I believe that show will be a hit. It's coming to its 3rd Season and I hope to see this show go far like the X-Files.
The Ten Commandments (2005)
Wow
Alright so, I never really saw the Charleton Heston version of the movie (I'll try and catch it Saturday when it's on the same channel this was on) and I tell ya: this was by far one of the strongest portrayals of the Exodus story. "I think your God is cruel", "we wouldn't need to build a statue...he lives even in your heart" these are some of the most powerful quotes. In the Old Testament, God was seen as cruel "tough but fair" and this is how Moses acted with his followers and he was also able to clearly detail how everything in Judaism and Christianity came to be: the idea of a nameless God, the Ten Commandments etc. You can easily see within the story of the Exodus (no matter what movie version) why the Decalogue is what it is: There is killing, adultery, perjury, paganism and all of this lead about to the creation of the Ten Commandments (aka the Decalogue).
Watch it! That's all I gotta say!
Supernatural: Skin (2005)
The boys meet a shape shifter
Okay so this episode starts out with a man convicted of murder and he's friends with Dean and Sam. The boys investigate and they run into a Skinwalker (a shape shifting man) who senselessly assaults and kills people for no reason. It morphs into Dean and starts wreaking havoc! I thought this episode was rather strange (this and Phantom Traveler). The Shape Shifter doesn't have a true story or background, I mean: where on earth did this thing come from? The being says it was born with the ability but that's it? Hmm...this is what makes it confusing because most of the other episodes of the show (except this one and Phantom Traveler) explain where the things come from and why they are what they are.
