Charlie Chan Carries On (1931)
Charlie Chan Carries On Was Remade with Sidney Toler
'Charlie Chan Carries On' with Warner Oland was remade with Sidney Toler as 'Charlie Chan's Murder Cruise'. It is about Charlie meeting a Scotland Yard detective in Honolulu who tells Charlie about the case he is working on. The English detective gets murdered and so Charlie Chan carries on with his investigation.
Se7en (1995)
I don't know how it ends
Once an actor has been in a movie with an evil counterculture end and as the bad guy I don't trust movies that actor is in anymore. Kevin Spacey is one such actor. I was half watching Se7en for a long time while I was doing some work on the computer, thinking I wish I knew the remote control was. Near the end I realized that Kevin Spacey was John Doe but he was in jail so I let it go on a little longer. When I heard Morgan Freeman say that John Doe had the upper hand I had to get up fast and change the channel. I still don't know how it ends.
There really should be a rating system that a movie has a bad ending so that guys like me don;t get suckered into watching crap like this.
Spellbinder (1988)
I don't know how it ends
I watched the first hour of this thing and I thought the guy had to be the most doubting Thomas I had ever seen, bordering on retarded. I started thinking it was going to have a disappointing ending like that Nicholas Cage movie about him on the Witch Island in Washington and like Blaire Witch did. Turned the channel and came here to figure out what was going to happen. One guy wrote not to expect a nice ending out of this thing and thanks for that as I hate evil endings.
I think IMDb ought to have some sort of rating system for films so a person could figure out if Good wins over evil or some other counter culture thing happens.
The Ring (2002)
Does It Have a Happy or Sad Ending?
I watched the movie half way through and any movie that kills a teenager at the beginning, (Slightly better than killing a kid) is probably not going to be mainstream stuff. About a half an hour in to it I went to IMDb to see if I could figure out if it was going to have a happy or sad ending. I read about 30 comments and could not figure it out. It was compared to the Blair Witch Project a couple times and so I decided to stop watching as I was afraid it was going to having a sad disappointing ending to it like the Blair Witch did.
There should be some sort of rating system that let viewers know ahead of time if good or evil is going to win out.
Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Hour (2007)
Really Fun Show
I am 55 and this is perhaps the best movie I have ever seen. It had it all, the mystery of what is the connection btw. Sarah's friend Megan, at whose death and funeral we start this story, and the death 21 years earlier of Johnny Woods is one aspect of this movie that I found fascinating. The plot is fractal, and as you focus on any piece of what is happening leads to ever expanding possibilities. Some people may call this a kid show, let me explain why. It doesn't hav bad language, graphic sex, or a sad ending. Personally I don't like my nose rubbed in dirt so I really liked it.
The Comrie boys all did a great job of acting and I think they could do great as action adventure heroes. Rissa Walters in her greatest role must continue this series of the Sarah Landon adventures. Hope yu got the next one written John as if there is no new adventure by the end of 2008 I am going to hold my breath till there is.
Casino Royale (2006)
Save James Bond
In some respects this was a James Bond movie, but it's not fun anymore. The movie is overly violent and has a tragic end that could of easily been avoided. James Bond saves the world but who is going to save James Bond from the meanies producing his movies. The James Bond they have is no Pierce Bronson and is better suited to being a bad guy I think. The chase scenes at the beginning is good but too long. Bring back the bouncy girl credits. Now we know what a double o means. Ian Fleming's favorite movie was the original Casino Royale which I much prefer to this version. This reminds me of what they did with Superman when they reinvented him in the early 90's. They killed him off and brought him back from the dead stronger than ever. Then they killed two kids in the comic book and I stopped reading it. The people producing James Bond movies better be careful that they don t lose the popular culture ties they have by putting bad endings on his movies, if it s not too late already.
Thunderbirds (2004)
Thunderbirds Are Real Gone Guys
Thunderbirds is a really fun movie that everyone should enjoy. Saying that I should mention that the main heroes are kids so some will say it's a kids show, but it's not. It has a good plot, action and adventure, good special effects, and a happy ending. Everything I want in a movie.
Gerry Anderson is not mentioned in the credits and I have to wonder whose idea that was. If you saw the 1966 "Thunderbirds Are Go" where they go to Mars, attack and wipe out the Martians; you would know what a happier and more rational movie this was. So if you haven't seen it, rent or buy it, your in for a treat.
