Listen Up (2004)
Alexander will never escape his George Costanza fame.
This show got canned and for very good reasons. For one thing, the son and daughter look nothing a like. Of course you'll get that with a lot of shows, but I mean, come on, so unbelievable. One thing I've noticed is shows that have a "show within the show" barely last ("Sports Night," "LateLine," etc.). Of course there was "Home Improvement" that worked well, but the writing was actually good. It had a Perfect story line; with this show, however, I didn't really know where it was going. I think they put way too many eggs into one basket. Too many plots. They put seven seasons of writing into one season.
One thing that may be a factor to this disaster is Jason Alexander trying very hard to escape his role as George Costanza from the greatest show ever made "Seinfeld." Unfortunately, it just may never happen. I think he has over stayed his sitcom welcome and should just move on to making crappy movies like he has been doing before, during and after "Seinfeld." And he really should of gotten a clue after the terrible "Bob Patterson" series which sank faster than the titanic. Don't get me wrong, he is a terrific actor, but sometimes he picks the wrong projects to work on.
Well, it was like I predicted. The show was a bomb and it will be long forgotten within a week if not sooner. This deserves no stars overall, not even for effort.
The Office (2005)
Best show on TV.
The new hit show "The Office" will be renewed for a second season on NBC. This show is great. Steve Carell is possibly one of the funniest men alive. His character, Mike, is a "not all there" boss who offends just about everybody, but doesn't know it. He tries so hard to make everyone happy but instead makes them even more miserable. Another great character on this show is Jim (John Krasinski). He is the brains behind all the great pranks pulled in the office. There is definitely tension between him and Pam. Pam (Jenna Fischer) is the office receptionist. She participates in a lot of Jim's attics while dealing with her not so great boyfriend Roy (David Denman).
One of my favorite characters is Dwight. The actor who plays Dwight, Rainn Wilson, surprised me the most. He has been mainly known as the creepy guy, Arthur, on the show "Six Feet Under." Never did I think he could pull off such a great comedic performance on this show. He is often the butt of Jim's pranks. Dwight is also power hungry. No one in the office takes him serious except for himself and it is pretty funny to watch him go crazy. There are so many other great characters, I can go on forever.
What I love about this show is it pays tribute to the great mockumentary styles of Rob Reiner and Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap, A Mighty Wind). And it's a nice F-you to all the bad reality shows that are always coming out. This show makes total fun of the whole reality TV craze. People use to watch TV to get away from reality. Watch this show for that very reason. Get away from "the real world" and laugh your ass off watching this show.
Talk about must see TV. This show is a must see! And you can catch the second season this fall. Be sure to watch it and catch the reruns of the first season. You will not regret it.
Green Screen Show (2004)
Doesn't do it for me.
I was really hoping this show would be better than "whose line is it anyway?" and "The Drew Carrey Show" but the end result was far from that. Instead, I found myself lost and confused. The animation is good but the use of improv with it did not flow well in my opinion.
The jokes were corny, the acting was terrible. What they should do is renew "Whose line is it anyway?" which I just found out today that it is going off the air. That show is quite good considering improv is ALWAYS fresh and new and for 99% of the time funny. I always find myself laughing when I watch that show.
I totally think they should get rid of this show. It was a good idea on paper, but terrible on screen. If this show continues, I will lose all respect for Drew Carrey whom I think is brilliant and funny as hell. The same goes for the rest of the cast like Colin who is a genius. I'm sorry, but this show doesn't do it for me.
